Can Conservatives Expect To Get Psychological Help From The Psychology Profession?

On Wednesday’s podcast, Michael was joined by local Edmond Social Psychologist, Dr. Robert Mather. Dr. Mather is a professor and researcher who runs the website the Conservative Social Psychologist. He is also a writer and podcaster, so be sure to check out his website to find his books, blogs and podcasts.

Dr. Mather told the sad tale of being invited to the University of Oregon this year to speak – where he’d spoken without incident in 2021 – only to be told by University of Oregon staff that “conservatives don’t deserve psychological help”, among other things.

Wow. It’s hard to believe that many of us could listen to that and not be deeply affected by the divide in this country and how that could effect our ability to get mental health services.

Because of his interest in the MK Ultra program run by the CIA across the 1940’s – and beyond – Dr. Mather talked a bit about a psychological experiment done here in Oklahoma at Robber’s Cave State Park by a man named Muzafer Sherif in the 1950’s.
