Lack of Transparency, Danger, Fuels Concerns About Enid Solar Installation

On Wednesday, May 8th, ROPE Report Live hosted NeAnne Clinton, a property owner from Enid, Oklahoma who is fighting a 10,000 acre solar farm installation just south of town between the municipal airport and Vance Airforce Base.

Over the course of an hour and a half, NeAnne walked us through some major concerns about this solar farm, including a lack of transparency by the County Commissioners, the danger of lithium ion battery fires and the destruction of private farm land. (Please see their website GARFIELD COUNTY CONSERVATION COALITION for more information)

Though the ‘climate change club’ wants to shriek like Chicken Little about the sky falling, their ‘fixes’ literally make no sense. In fact, between wind and solar, there is no way to believe that either method of energy is producing less waste and better living conditions than natural gas or oil.

Let’s break it down.

  • China makes nearly all solar panels creating supply chain and autonomy issues for the US
  • It costs about $20-$30 to recycle one panel, when sending it to the landfill costs between $1 and $2
  • There are mainly made of glass and silver, the former which has very little recycling value at present
  • No plans have been made to dispose of the waste which is expected to generate 315 metric tons by 2030
  • Solar panels only last about 25 to 30 years
  • Recycling at present is inefficient, expensive and highly regulated making it difficult to achieve
  • Though solar panel recycling could be worth a great deal in the future, the industry is not growing to keep pace with the number of solar panels being installed
  • The lithium batteries needed to store the energy solar panels produce
    • are full of toxic materials
    • they are mined in developing countries – creating human rights issues and a geopolitical instability in battery components
    • creating battery-grade lithium uses massive amounts of energy, that ironically we’re trying to conserve by using solar energy
    • lithium batteries often end up in landfills
    • recycling lithium batteries is difficult and expensive
  • Lithium ion batteries cannot be extinguished if they catch fire and use inordinate amounts of water to control, or firefighters foam which contains cancer-causing PFA’s that easily pollute water sources like aquifers

In the meantime, solar energy corporations like the one attempting to set up shop in Enid – NextEra – are not being transparent with landowners or the City of Enid about the benefits to citizens.

Legislators Exempt Legislators And Others From PFAS Liability; Saundra Traywick – ROPE Report Short

Saundra Traywick of Oklahoma’s only Donkey Dairy, has been studying the effects of BIOSLUDGE (Humanure/Biosolids) since it was first dumped next to her farm several years ago.

After nearly being run off their property by the smell, Saundra found that this, so-called fertilizer made from sewage solids, can contain ‘forever chemicals’ like PFAS that have been shown to cause cancer and ‘gender-bending’ chemicals like atrizine.

For three years, the Traywick’s have been working with Oklahoma senator Shane Jett to try and stop the use of biosludge in Oklahoma, where it’s usually spread on crop lands that are used for hay, or animal grazing.

Unfortunately, at least one permit for the use of biosludge, belongs to an Oklahoma legislator – Representative Kevin Wallace, Chair of the House Appropriations and Budget Committee.

How many other legislators are using biosludge on their farmland is unknown, however we do know that application is free for the farmer who uses it – unlike those who choose to pay for fertilizer application, or rent livestock to do that job. We also know from Saundra that no less than three bills have been run in the Oklahoma legislature to ban or otherwise control the use of biosludge, but none have passed.

Today, HB2305 will not only NOT protect the people of Oklahoma from the toxic effects of biosludge in their drinking water and/or food, but – as the EPA gets closer to regulating the amount of PFAS in drinking water – it will EXEMPT the sellers of this crap, like Synagro and the end users who spread it on their property, to name a few.

Just like BIG PHARMA’s vaccine manufacturers can inject people with substances all the while knowing they don’t ever have to be responsible for the end results, our Oklahoma House just voted nearly unanimously (thank you Rick West and Tom Gann for voting NO!) to protect everyone from the effects of biosludge – and the same with the Senate (and thanks to the whole 10 of you who voted NO! ๐Ÿ‘Š๐Ÿ’–) – but those who need protecting most – the PEOPLE.

Truly, it should be in the daily lexicon of every legislator – to ask before voting on ANY bill – does it protect the liberty of the people whom I represent? If it doesn’t, the VOTE must be NO.

There’s no way a bill that seeks to ‘hold harmless’ those people perpetrating and/or allowing biosludge to effect Oklahomans through their food, air and water, is protecting their liberty! Instead of creating exemptions, legislators should be working together to BAN the use of biosludge across Oklahoma!
