On April 29, SB224, aimed at creating an education data system, failed in the House. After a series of unprecedented votes on May 1, the bill eventually passed without an emergency clause. Oklahoma’s state legislature should not expand the State Longitudinal Database System (SLDS), originally funded by an Obama grant, despite existing data collection concerns. Increased government tracking of students should not be accomplished and citizens should oppose new data collection bills. We advocate for parental awareness and action to protect children’s privacy.
