Oklahoma Inc., Part 2 – Republican OK Governor Kevin Stitt Channels Democrat Obama With His New Education “Turnaround Team”

First, why do you suppose it’s important to use the word “Workforce” to describe people who are – or will be employed? Answer: so that people become accustomed to being widgets – not individuals. Who is the Constitution made for? Individuals. Who votes in elections in our Democratic Republic? Individuals.

What about the phrase “community”? Answer: it’s a group of individuals. Groups are much more easily led and studies show this to be true. This is where we get the tongue-in-cheek term, “Sheeple”. So why move to this use of the word “community” to describe multiple groups of individuals? Because

What about the phrase “data-driven”? Answer: Data is science. Science has become the God of many today (COVID anyone?) Therefore, science knows better about people than people can know about people. There’s no argument about a child’s trajectory in life, then, if the “data” lines out that trajectory. No muss, no fuss, no messy, “but mom and dad, I’d like to be a firefighter when I grow up”. If the data says “aerospace engineer” (because the state is giving the industry millions in tax credits), then Johnny gets to be an aerospace engineer.

In 2008, Barack Obama became our 49th president. Let us never forget that under the one-word campaign slogan – CHANGE – Obama set about creating a socialist paradise in this country which dismantled nearly every LOCALIZED state institution – including education – almost thoroughly.

In the place of localized educational standards, Obama worked with the National Governor’s Association (of which Governor (King) Stitt just become Chair – please review his Igniting The Dream initiative below) and of which Mary Fallin was Chair during her term, 2013-14) and the Counsel of Chief State School Officers (all state superintendents) to create top down (national) educational standards to make sure every student in America was learning like every other student in America, which they called the Common Core State Standards. Unbelievably, (wink, wink) The CCSS have been found to be a failure in every state that adopted them (please internet search the term “Common Core failure” for more studies describing this boondoggle).

He also ramped up the State Longitudinal Database System. Working with the The National Center for Education Statistics, the Common Education Data Standards Initiative was created where thousands of data points were developed so that every school around the country could collect information on every student enrolled in public school in the United States to help them ‘learn’ better. This initiative has not failed, and in fact, has gained more steam the more tyrannical governments at every level realize how easy it is to control a populace on which they have millions of datapoints of information.

Besides an initiative to grade teachers (which has created part of the mess we now see in public education) – the Teacher Effectiveness system – the last of Obama’s four pillars was to create a TURNAROUND MODEL for ‘turning around failing schools, funded by School Improvement Grants. This roundly debunked initiative has been an absolute failure, yet it cost US taxpayers BILLIONS of dollars.

And so, this last week, Governor (King) Stitt, took full advantage of ELECTED Ryan Walters’ decision to quit his job instead of upholding his compact with his VOTERS to finish his term and made SWEEPING changes to Oklahoma’s upper education infrastructure – which he called Oklahoma’s “turnaround”. Hopefully, you’ll understand from the brief synopsis above, why I’m not in the least inspired by this turn of events.

Now, let’s review all that has happened since Ryan Walters quit:

Governor King-Stitt tells the public he’s going to ask the legislature to make the State Superintendent position appointed because there isn’t enough alignment between the Governor’s office and the state superintendent if the position is not appointed. (NO. JUST NO. This is at minimum a CHECK AND BALANCE. Number 2, I’ve had enough of Governor Stitt’s failed appointments and number 3, we are a Representative Government, not an oligarchy or a private business – things Governor King-Stitt forgets on a regular basis.)
Governor King-Stitt moves around his office staff – hiring what can only be called “swamp creatures” to help him finish out his term. This included trying to move long-time associate Donelle Harder into the Secretary of State position (don’t worry, after telling him to exit, I’m sure Stitt will find a cozy new deal for perennial government satellite Josh Cochroft) when she wasn’t eligible. How did no one in Stitt’s office seem to know the actual rules? If you’re King, or CEO, what do rules really matter?
Governor King-Stitt appoints a new Walters replacement – Lindel Fields – whose pronouns are “nice/kind”, who, in a very OPPOSITE RYAN WALTERS MOVE shed actual tears during the press conference, whose accreditations come from a place called Giant Worldwide (which includes a certification in “5 Voices“) – and include an SSGI/Baldrige Foundation Diversity and Inclusion Yellow Belt Certification from Six Sigma Global Institute. Very NOT GLOBAL! Don’t we have some law thingy against DEI?
Governor King Stitt appoints a new Secretary of Education, Daniel Hamlin, whose background includes University of Oklahoma professor, and who was educated both in Asia (MA Sejong University, Seoul, Asian Studies) and Canada where he received a Ph.D. from Ontario Institute for Studies in Education (OISE) Educational Leadership and Policy. So, advanced degrees from socialist countries. That’s comforting. Though he’s worked at OU the last 7 years, before that, he was at Oxford for 8 and University of Toronto for 4. Very Oklahoman! He is also Jeb Bush adjacent and seems to have an itch to control HOMESCHOOLING!
Governor King Stitt appoints his Obama-styled “turnaround team” at the Department of Education that includes (among others):
- Tom Newell – former Oklahoma State Representative (2011-2017) was re-elected overwhelmingly in 2016, but mysteriously left the House right before the teacher walkouts when so many conservatives were routed out of the House. He has worked for school choice proponents “Yes. Every. Kid“, a Koch-sponsored school choice organization and OCPA, Oklahoma’s own privately-funded school choice organization. He was kicked out as the Governor’s Chief of Staff for Donelle Harder.
- Nellie Tayloe Sanders (married to the Executive Director of Oklahoma’s Broadband Office operator former State Representative Mike Sanders – who got his job after the Governor told the Broadband Board to vote for him) – who, prior to becoming Oklahoma’s Secretary of Education had sold advertising for magazines and a fundraiser for the Center Of Family Love in Okarche.
- Megan Oftedal (Ph.D.) was the head of the Oklahoma Education Quality and Accountability office (OEQA). She was educated at Loyola University, UCLA,
  RAND Pardee Graduate School and Harvard – the last two universities where she received her Ph.D., and did post-grad work in data. She somehow got to Oklahoma, where she was employed by American Fidelity (the bank associated with the the complaint of election conspiracy in the Joy Hoffmeister campaign) and then on to a stint at META before coming back to Oklahoma to work at OEQA. The OEQA website tells us, “Dr. Megan Oftedal is a results-driven data leader with over a decade of experience in both the public and private sectors. She is excited to serve OEQA and transform it into a P20 data and analytics hub to inform policy and improve educational outcomes.” P20 is the State Longitudinal Database that collects data points on children from birth (day care) to 20 years old (workforce). Now that she’ll be ensconced at the Department of Education who knows what she can do?
Current Okemah Chamber of Commerce President Connie Reilly, will now take over for Oftedal as the head of OEQA. She was a decades-long educator in Okemah schools, who was appointed to the Board of Regents of the Regional University System of Oklahoma by Brad Henry in 2007 – a post she has kept through 2 successive Republican governors now. Why a retired teacher would want to suddenly become president of the local chamber flummoxes me. And yet she will now be in a position where she can work with the Chamber and Dr. Oftedal, to hook all the databases in the state together so we can follow all children from birth to grave. Yay.
Governor King-Stitt then replaced two of his friends he had earlier appointed to the Oklahoma State Board of Education, but who haven’t been showing up much lately – Zach Archer and Sarah Lepak (who was Assistant General Counsel at Gateway Mortgage Group, from Apr 2012 – Mar 2017) – with Brian Bobek and Wes Nofire. Stitt has already appointed Bobek to the state board, where he served from 2019 to 2023. Bobek left BP Oil after 23 years to come to work for Governor Stitt, where, so far, he’s been his Deputy Chief of Staff, Chief Operating Officer (of something, I guess Governor Stitt?) and his Director of Faith Based Initiatives (another made up job not found in the Oklahoma Job Catalog so we have no idea what taxpayers pay for his salary). Nofire – like all the others – has been appointed by Stitt to something before: he’s a Commissioner on the Board of the State Athletic Commission and he’s also the Native American Liaison to the Office of the Governor since 2024.

Interestingly – neither our new, nice, State Superintendent, nor King-Stitt, notified our friend – and former Oklahoma State School Board member Kendra Wesson, that she had been fired as the Chair of the Oklahoma State Textbook Committee. She only found out when I read it in a ‘news’ media article and shared the information with her. Just another way we know that King-Stitt’s agenda is NOT about We The People.

I think it’s worth noting that in SEVERAL articles I read, the local “news” media have managed to quote Oklahoma Edvocates (a group for leftist teachers, not for parents or students), President, Jami Jackson Cole on King-Stitt’s Obama-like Turnaround, which she appears to be all for.

So, in closing, let all that sink in. Governor King-Stitt has now put into place all the “yes” men he’s previously appointed/worked with in some capacity as stewards of our Oklahoma Education funds and students. It is clear to me that this “turnaround” is one in which parents will be left behind. It has to be that way for the Jeb Bush/Chamber of Commerce-focused agenda of driving students into jobs so the elites can save money on job training can play out in real time.

Gone will be the effort to remove predators from schools and smutty, developmentally-inappropriate books from the library. Incoming will be the giant cookie cutter of big government, stamping children into widgets through collection of reams of unnecessary and invasive data for the benefit of private businesses. Watch.

In Bizarre Twist, OSDE Board Members Accuse State Super Of Character Assassination After Assassinating Character Of State Super

From the Daily Oklahoman (8.7.25), “What we saw on TV is content that would get the certificate of any teacher in this state revoked had it showed up on a classroom TV,” they said. “Now we have to ask the question: Why did Superintendent Walters lie about the TV being connected to the internet and what he saw on the TV that day? He repeatedly called the board members liars and attempted to destroy our reputation.”

This comment was apparently released by Governor Kevin Stitt-appointed, Oklahoma State of Education Board members, Becky Carson and Ryan Deatherage, though I couldn’t find an associated press release, just the comment in the DO article linked above. Not that it would matter. I find the statement so absolutely ridiculous, unserious and “pot calling the kettle black“, that it matters not where it was actually published.

Since “Nudigate” – as Katy Smith (V1SUT) and I named it in a live special last week – became primetime MSM fodder, it has gone from the ridiculous to the more ridiculous, from shrieking and pearl clutching to shrieking and character assassination.

Two of the best of several Oklahoma independent media blogs have covered this story – from Ramblings Of A Domesticated Warrior (An Emmy-Worthy, Box Office Bombshell: The Scandal That Hijacked Oklahoma) to the Oklahoma State Capitol (Hulkamania and the State Board of Education’s Porn Panic of 2025), to V1SUT in the above-linked video.

While the MSM have focused on allegations meant to steer the public into considering that our State Superintendent of Public Instruction watches porn in his office leading to the conclusion that he should therefore be removed from his office – you know, the one to which OKLAHOMA VOTERS ELECTED HIM – the Oklahoma Independent Media have been busy trying to find other reasons for board member allegations that there were naked women on the TV in Walters’ office.

Tuesday, August 5th, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Kyle Hilbert, came forward with a conclusion to his investigation – “When initially powered on, the television displayed Samsung TV Plus Channel 1204 (Movie Hub Action).” On Samsung Plus at the time was a Jackie Chan movie from the 1980’s that had significant frontal nudity in the American release.

So, amazingly, this explanation not only vindicates Superintendent Walters, but the OSBE members as well. This is an odd situation, but probably the only plausible one. Yes, the members saw naked women, but no, Walters had no hand in the debacle.

Now, let’s go on to this one question that remains – WHY ON EARTH WASN’T ANY OF THIS HANDLED BEHIND CLOSED DOORS? Why did Becky Carson IMMEDIATELY run to the media in hysterics? Why would Ryan Deatheridge join in the fun?

Obviously only those Board members would know, obviously, but we can certainly generate some thoughts and ideas based on recent history:

Governor Stitt fires three OSDE Board members over a political perspective – the Board members had listened to a presentation from the Oklahoma City Public Schools Superintendent who said that they were struggling because it was becoming extremely difficult to educate non-English speaking students. Though the state is required to collect data on illegal students, when the three members of the Board broached the idea of collecting data on these students, Governor Stitt fired them. (By the way, has anyone ever wondered why Zach Archer and Sarah LePak are never there during controversial happens with the Board? Who are these people to Kevin Stitt? It might be worth reading to find out.)
This action generates a rift in the formerly finish-each-other’s-sentences-bromance of Stitt and Walters. Now, suddenly, Stitt seems to actually have it out for Walters – a situation so noticeable, News9 did a complete timeline of the fallout.
Governor Stitt appoints two of three members to replace the three fired, including attorney-husband of local education union POE head, Ginger Tinney and Chris VanDenhend – both of whom have CLASSIC conflicts of interest that are just brushed under the rug by the Oklahoma Senate Education Committee during their confirmation. Becky Carson is appointed with little fanfare – more on her here – yet, suddenly, she is all over the MSM 24/7.

Now. Let’s posit some more;

If you were a board member on good terms with your Chair, would you run screaming to the media bout something odd and concerning that happened before an Executive meeting being held in the office of the Chair, or would you go to the Board and to the Chair to discuss it and possibly have it investigated?
What does it buy a Board member to run screaming to the media about something odd and concerning that happened before an Executive meeting being held in the office of the Chair instead of discussing it and possibly having it investigated?
Yes, Walters did call the Board members liars. Hmmm…this is just me, but, if I was accused of doing something societally gross (even today we frown on public servants watching porn at work) that I didn’t do and I had a family with children who can be exposed to the media – which was spewing it all over every channel night and day – and a spouse I loved who I didn’t want embarrassed by an untrue allegation, YEAH I MIGHT GET A BIT HACKED OFF and even accuse people of lying when I know the allegations being made against me weren’t true. Especially if I’d been under fire from the Left from the beginning of my term.
What have the Left in Oklahoma done to Walters since HIS ELECTION BY THE PEOPLE? Hint: check out the screenshots below and anything by local hater of everything conservative, Sean Cummings.

So now, let’s recap: several members of the Oklahoma State Board of Education appointed by Governor Kevin Stitt – in the middle of a public feud with the State Super – see something on a television that was inappropriate and – instead of reporting the incident to the rest of the Board and/or others privately – go screaming to the MSM. The Board members ACCUSE the state Superintendent of watching porn in his office supported by tax payers. The Governor stays silent on the matter. The Super gets justifiably angry about the accusations and accuse the Board members of lying. NO ONE WINS, but the Left goes nuts with the entire story and uses it as justification for a rally to try and impeach a seated official who has been shown to have done nothing wrong, but was the victim of a bizarre electronic mistake.

Look, I’m not a Walters sycophant. I’ve been on his case – especially about vouchers for private schools – more than anyone who brands themselves Republican. If I thought – for one minute – that Walters was doing something he shouldn’t have been doing, do you think that wouldn’t have been a big blow up on this blog and on the podcast? It sure as shootin’ would’ve.

This is all political theater of the highest heights. It’s political nonsense that’s actually hurt a family for no reason other than politics and that hacks me off. I don’t care if you don’t like conservative politics, that dislike is not a reason to hurt someone else with impunity and then have the unmitigated GALL to turn around and say you’ve been hurt.

Becky Carson and Ryan Deatheridge are the absolute worst of the worst of appointed officials in Oklahoma right now and they should be released from the Oklahoma State School Board ASAP, with VanDenhende and Tinney not be far behind – if for no other reason than their OBVIOUS conflicts of interest not reported by any other media than ROPE Report and other Oklahoma IMs. I’m sick to my stomach about the political drama created by Governor Stitt through his appointments to this Board and the fact that absolutely NONE OF THIS HELPS OKLAHOMA KIDS in any way – which, by the way, Superintendent Walters and the previous board were actually doing by removing sexual predators from our public schools system.

So then, could this be what all of this is about in the first place? Could Governor Stitt and the rest of this Board object to removing sexual predators from our kids? Anyone with a brain has to wonder.

Parent Who Posted Now-Viral State-Approved Waurika Psychology Assignment To Her Facebook Page Speaks Out

A truly unfortunate event happened in the classroom of Ashlyn Jade’s niece at Waurika Public Schools Monday afternoon.

According to an interview with Ashlyn this afternoon, Coach Roger Jesse, a teacher/coach with 40+ years in Oklahoma education – and someone with many years of service and an excellent reputation in Waurika Public Schools – gave his 11th grade psychology class an assignment that has now made internet viral status.

Coach Jesse was asked to teach a new extra curricular psychology class at Waurika High School this semester. Ashlyn believes that, in a hurry and under duress from a strenuous teaching/coaching schedule, he downloaded a STATE APPROVED psychology curriculum to use during his class on Monday afternoon, copied it and handed it out without really reviewing it.

Ashlyn’s niece, very uncomfortable with the subject matter, took a picture of the assignment and uploaded it to Snap Chat during class, where it stayed 24 hours – long enough for her 5th grade daughter to see it in her feed in the morning. Her daughter then screenshot the post and sent the photo to her mother.

Immediately upset, Ashlyn put in a call to Waurika High School Principal, Derek Milburn. When Principal Milburn returned her call, Ashlyn explained to him exactly what had happened and that she was very upset that, not only was her 11th grade niece exposed to this kind of assignment, but that her 5th grade daughter had found it on SnapChat.

According to Ashlyn, Principal Milburn seemed rushed and dismissed her by saying that ‘it was already taken care of and that she shouldn’t worry about it. All the parents of students who had been effected had been made aware.’

Ashlyn knew the Snap had gone viral and that a very large number of Waurika Public Schools students had already seen it. She told me she doesn’t believe that Mr. Milburn knew that fact, but because she felt as though the Principal was essentially dismissing her concern that her 5th grade daughter (and other students in the school system) had seen it, she posted the assignment to her Facebook page out of frustration and to make a point.

The post went viral in a short time, with even State Superintendent Ryan Walters posting it – unedited – from his social media accounts.

Not long after the post went viral, so did the accusations from community members pointed in her direction.

Ashlyn says she’s being accused of calling a beloved Coach a predator and she wants to say that this perspective isn’t at all true. During our interview, she called my attention back to her original post, the top of which is posted above. She never mentioned any names, nor even the school system. It only became known that the assignment was from Waurika because someone commenting on her post asked if the incident had happened in Waurika and she answered “yes”.

It wasn’t until Wednesday afternoon that Waurika Public Schools addressed the incident publicly with a letter posted to their Facebook page written by Cody Simmons, WPS’ Superintendent.

According to Ashlyn, Coach Jesse has been put on leave and is being asked to retire. She doesn’t believe that’s fair.

Ashlyn said that she made the post to “shed light on the fact that the teacher used a state approved curriculum. Coach Jesse copied and pasted an assignment that was approved by the Oklahoma State Department of Education. He was not a psychology teacher, he was a coach teaching a psychology class. He copied and pasted the OSDE curriculum and gave it to students without really reading it. He was just overworked.”

She advocates for the return of Roger Jesse and says that she “believes that the responsibility and repercussions for this terrible situation should not fall on the shoulders of the teacher, but on Principal Milburn, Superintendent Simmons and State Superintendent Ryan Walters” because this was part of a state approved psychology curriculum.

Ashlyn has a point. It seems as though the teacher made a really terrible mistake. If you were a hurried teacher and you went to the OSDE website and downloaded curriculum that had been approved for use in high school, would you really worry too much about it being inappropriate for use in state classrooms? I’m not excusing Coach Jesse of all the responsibility for the issue – whether it came from the OSDE or not, he should have really examined what he was using in class – but in light of Ashlyn’s comments, there is some plausibility for his lack of diligence.

In 2021, I wrote an article titled, “Oklahoma State Department of Education Promoting “Anti” Racist (CRT) Propaganda and Risk Behavior Surveys Through SEL and Counseling Services“. After seeing the information and curriculum being pushed under the Hoffmeister administration that was available ON THE OSDE WEBSITE, I totally believe that Coach Jesse downloaded something that should never have been used in an Oklahoma k-12 classroom because it was up on the OSDE website for teachers to download.

Who’s fault is that? Ultimately, it’s our Superintendent’s fault. The buck stops on his desk. He’s had no trouble pounding his dashboard during in-car videos railing (rightly) against discriminatory practices in schools, but he should be doing less pounding/videos and concentrating more on what’s on the state website for teachers to download.

Then, there’s the tepid, dismissive response of the Principal to Ashley. He – and the Superintendent – should have known that students would share that kind of crazy assignment on social media like crazy and be more concerned about ALL the students who could have seen it, instead of just those students in class.

Ashlyn Jade did what she felt like she needed to do as a parent, and an Aunt, and she’s taking a pretty good beating over it in the community. But then, our Superintendent posted an UNEDITED version to his social media. HOW RESPONSIBLE IS THAT? Shouldn’t he have focused on just the part about the investigation?

In the end, there’s a whole lot of blame to go around when it comes to this incident, but I don’t see Ashlyn as a party to that. Parents NEED to speak out when they see this kind of thing – that’s how they protect their children – and they should do that whether anyone else likes that or not.

Oklahoma House lawmaker takes on second role as government affairs manager

The Oklahoman – I’m not sure how we’re not to see this as a major conflict of interest. How does one sit on the board of an organization – certainly one like the Freedom From Religion Foundation – without that influencing your legislative votes? How do you lobby for a group and then NOT vote in a way that would further their cause on the floor of the House?

Rep. Dollens says he can do it because he’ll vote the way his constituents want, but then there’s this; Dollens’ new job will be to, “identify[ing] and advance[ing] key legislative priorities, building coalitions in strategic states and developing initiatives to counter Christian nationalism”. Interestingly, he then goes on to say in basically just the next paragraph that he is “in no way a lobbyist.” Since he just articulated the definition of lobbyist in the prior sentence, I’m very confused. Does that mean Rep. Dollens is as well?

Federal Agency Gains Access to Monitor Guthrie Oklahoma Residents Through City Surveillance System

Sooner Sentinel – The Sentinel tells us in this installment, that the ATF has been allowed access to automatic license plate reader (ALPR) data by the Guthrie Police Department. What? Essentially, just like we learned from Rep. Tom Gann’s interim study on ALPRs, the contract that Guthrie PD has signed with ALPR data group FLOCK. This is – I would hope – obviously, distressing. Police departments should not be using FLOCK because they share their data with so many other organizations. But then again, just recently the Sentinel told us how the City of Edmond refused an open records request for information on with whom exactly the City was sharing their ALPR data, so how would we really know. ALPR cameras must go IMO.

The Fool Has Said…

Shooting The Oklahoma Breeze Substack – really, quite a great commentary on the environmental movement. It’s short and very well-written, so at least scan it. His thesis is that the climate change narrative is given to us by fools who are too arrogant and consumed by elitism to realize they are even fools. Jesus is the only person who can save the planet, so we’re sitting with fools if we believe we’re somehow going to ‘fix’ the planet via any of the climate crowd’s ridiculous nonsense. I would add, that the best way to fix the planet IMO is reducing, reusing and recycling as individuals. Also, instead of technology companies focusing on things like AI that will not only eventually harm us, but eat up massive amounts of energy, they should focus on how better to recycle the things we’re taking from the earth NOW so that more people can use them a second time.

Edmond, Moore, Stillwater districts shine in latest edition of Oklahoma State Report Card

The Oklahoman – Who really knows for certain what the Department of Educational Quality and Accountability office is doing with the state report cards. It was reported that the data had changed for the year and that cut scores had been changed, but there is nothing on the website I could find that explains how the data was crunched. If we don’t know how the data was collected, how do we know what to think of the scores? We talked to Kendra Wesson about that briefly in our conversation from last Wednesday, but even she wasn’t clear, she just mentioned that the differences in scores from then to now were not outrageous in the scores she’d spot checked.

WAIT! I just went out to find the article on Oklahoma’s cut scores only to find out that Wisconsin and Ohio changed their cut scores – I didn’t have time to look for other states. So, because the A-F grading for schools was federally mandated in Obama’s ‘Race To The Top’ program in order for schools to get federal dollars, I’m thinking there might be something going on at the federal level that sparked the change. I don’t know and don’t have time to research it I’m sorry to say, but I think the chances are good…

Right of First Refusal Laws Benefit Utilities, Not Consumers

Real Clear Energy – YIKES! I didn’t know anything about this, but we’d better start looking to get rid of any “right of first refusal” laws that might have previously been passed, or that might be passed this year. Here’s the explanation RCE gives:

“The proposed bills would give electric utilities in these states a “right of first refusal” (ROFR) to build, own, and operate new transmission lines in their service area, preventing new projects from being competitively bid on by other energy companies. These bills would eliminate a key element of competition from the part of electricity grid development known as transmission planning.”

The Oklahoman – I can say that this article finally has something upon which the Superintendent and I can agree fully – THE FEDERAL EDUCATION DEPARTMENT SHOULD BE SHUTTERED FOREVER.

Basically, however, this article is about Walters’ meeting with the state Senate education budget subcommittee where he submitted a request for…. drumroll please….. $3.95 billion dollars – which includes 3 million dollars Walters wants to spend on classroom Bibles.

Billion. Think on that. A BILLION dollars spent on Oklahoma public education systems graduating a vast majority of students who aren’t proficient in either reading or math. I want my money back. What a horrible return on ‘investment’ <eye roll>.

KTUL Tulsa – A really good story about how Oklahoma Superintendent Ryan Walters has allowed school report cards to be changed to show students performing MUCH better than they are in reality. This is truly awful and yet, not only has it happened, but even after the public has been notified, nothing appears to be in the works to restore transparency and solve the problem.

Oklahoma To Obtain Drone Monitoring Systems After Mysterious Sightings In Other States

Oklahoma Voice – From the article: “Drones and unmanned aerial systems are an exciting new industry here in Oklahoma,” Stitt said. “We want to make sure that industry has room to thrive.”

Because the technology is new, the state doesn’t have all the measures in place to ensure protection from those who wish to cause harm, Stitt said.

Osage Tribe Wins Again, Federal Judge Orders “Ejectment” Of 84 Wind Turbines By Next December

Robert Bryce; Substack – While this is certainly a win for the Osage tribe, who have been fighting this fight for years apparently, this is also a spectacular win against WIND ENERGY if for no other reason than this; Enel (the Italian wind energy company responsible for the turbines) has said it will take 300 million dollars to remove 84 turbines. That’s 3.6 million dollars per turbine.

Now think…you are a landowner who signs a contract for a wind turbine on your property. Are you going to be required to come up with 3.6 million dollars to remove that turbine once it’s broken beyond repair? Food for thought, huh?r

Thanks to the dispersal of MORE tax dollars to new, private businesses – this time by the DOE in the amount of 100 million dollars – Blue Whale Materials can come into Bartlesville and recycle lithium batteries. Lithium is toxic to humans and the environment and has been the cause of numerous fires from solar installations to airplanes. Why do we keep chasing the GREEN AGENDA and putting Oklahomans at risk? I’m gonna guess dollars, because Blue Whale is – at best – only going to employ 100 people. But then, isn’t that what Canoo said, only to leave Oklahoma high and dry on every one of its promises?

What Homeschoolers Need To Know About the “Make Homeschool Safe Act”

HSLDA – Representative Amanda Swope and former Representative Joe Dorman of the Oklahoma Institute For Child Advocacy (I won’t help them out by providing a link to their organization), spent an entire interim study warning legislators about the hidden dangers of homeschooling, more than likely in preparation for legislation to curtail the practice in order to ‘make Oklahoma children safe’. Of course this is nonsense. Oklahoma is the only state in the union that promises unfettered homeschooling by way of its constitution and if you don’t believe me, visit our friends at the Constitutional Home Educators Alliance. Homeschoolers aren’t the ones in the news on a continual basis facing allegations of sexual – and other – misconduct with students. We need to watch out for this kind of legislation that would stifle the liberty Oklahoma homeschool students are famous for. Amanda Swope has since left the legislature, but OICA will not rest until the practice of schooling our own children has been hamstrung in the name of…wait for it…’safety’. Guest Post: Dove Charter Schools Manipulate Test Scores And More, While Ryan Walters Practices Political Pandering

Dear Jenni and Michael,

Thank you for rerunning my October 2 podcast episode (11.27.24). Since our initial discussion, I’ve gained additional insights that I believe are critical for your audience to understand the depth of the challenges in Oklahoma’s education system.

Following the podcast, I was provided with extensive evidence tying Dove Schools in Oklahoma to the Gulen movement, a network with troubling ties to questionable financial practices and allegations of supporting terrorism. While I had previously noticed smaller concerns, such as H-1B visa abuse and inadequate instruction, the broader picture is far more alarming:

H-1B Visa Exploitation: Dove Schools heavily rely on foreign hires rather than qualified local teachers, mirroring practices seen in other Gulen-affiliated schools. These teachers are often expected to “donate” portions of their salary back to the foundation, with reports indicating up to 40% of their paychecks being funneled back.
Cosmos Foundation Connections: Financial ties to this Gulenist organization suggest that Oklahoma taxpayer dollars are being redirected to entities with global political motives.
Curricular and Cultural Alignments: Participation in events like the Turkish Olympiads and field trips to Raindrop Turkish House, both Gulen-affiliated activities, further demonstrate misplaced priorities that detract from meaningful education for students.

Despite raising these concerns with Brian Shellem and the Oklahoma Charter School Board, their focus remains primarily on the St. Isidore Catholic Charter School initiative. While the intersection of church and state warrants scrutiny, this singular focus has allowed significant issues in other areas to persist unchecked.

The approval of private school vouchers last year already opened the door for families to choose religious education on their own terms. If proponents of St. Isidore wish to create an online school teaching Catholic doctrine, the solution is straightforward: establish it as a private school. There are many schools operating successfully under that model, free to teach as they wish without taxpayer entanglement.

Yet here we are, with the Charter School Board using taxpayer dollars to fight a legal battle that has already failed in Oklahoma’s courts. The push for a federal Supreme Court ruling appears motivated by the current Court’s sympathy toward religious institutions, but this comes at a cost. Resources and energy are being wasted, while the failures of virtual charter schools remain unaddressed.

Take DOVE Schools, for example—a network openly funneling taxpayer dollars meant for education into a global organization tied to terrorism and foreign political agendas. Their ties to the Gulen movement—including misuse of H-1B visas, financial connections to the Cosmos Foundation, and participation in Gulenist cultural events—are well-documented and deeply troubling. The state school boards know, Ryan Walters knows, Kevin Stitt knows, and a majority of the Senate and House know. These schools operate under the guise of education while delivering substandard instruction and contributing to a larger global agenda.

And what is Ryan Walters doing? Instead of addressing these glaring issues, he panders to political bases with symbolic gestures like distributing Bibles in schools, ignoring the fact that 3 out of 4 Oklahoma students cannot read proficiently. He continues to turn a blind eye to DOVE Schools’ questionable practices, perhaps because their success helps pave the way for his self-serving agenda with St. Isidore. This mismanagement of priorities erodes Oklahoma’s already fragile education system and betrays the trust of both taxpayers and students.

Which is sad, because he continually trumpets that Trump was given a mandate, while ignoring the fact that Ryan Walters was given a mandate by the people of Oklahoma to fix our schools. Instead of addressing the glaring issues plaguing our education system—such as literacy rates, teacher shortages, and classroom resources—he’s chosen to focus on superficial initiatives like distributing Bibles to classrooms and touting his stance on cultural and political flashpoints. Meanwhile, he’s manipulating test scores by adjusting benchmarks and lowering standards, ensuring they’ll look artificially improved next year. This will allow him to present a façade of progress as he likely pivots toward higher political ambitions. These tactics do nothing to help the students who are falling behind, the teachers who are leaving the profession in droves, or the schools struggling to provide quality education. It’s deeply disappointing to see that, in terms of improving academic success, he has actually done worse than Joy Hofmeister.

Oklahoma Watch Requests – And Receives – Anonymous Tip Information To Write Story In Favor Of Edmond Teacher Regan Killacky

Once the concept of anonymous isn’t anymore, trust is gone and transparency is dead.

Look, I read the Oklahoma Watch. Sometimes they’re the only online media source from which I can get any kind of real information about our Republican elected officials. But there you go. I’ve personally found their stories to be biased to the left – which, as I said, works for me sometimes because their interest in taking out Republicans at least results in some kind of transparency for one side of the isle.

But right, or left, NO media source should request information that is meant to be anonymous and Oklahoma Watch did.

September 13th, reporter Jennifer Palmer posted a story to the online paper entitled, “State Seeks to Decertify Teacher Over 5-Year-Old Instagram Family Photo“. Palmer contends that Edmond Public School teacher Regan Killacky – who took a picture of himself and his son threatening a Donald Trump mask with plastic swords during an outing to a Halloween store in 2019 – should not be fired for the post.

Here is a legitimate sentence from Palmer’s piece: “But in Killackey’s case, Superintendent of Public Instruction Ryan Walters prioritized punishing a teacher over political speech he disagreed with in order to score political points”. Is anyone going to try and argue that this statement is somehow objective ‘journalism’? That it ISN’T completely biased? I hope not. You simply can’t make that argument. You’d look like a dope.

At any rate, Palmer’s desire to “get the story” and apparently prop up Killacky, resulted in her open records requesting (ORR) from the Oklahoma State Department of Education (OSDE) information on who filed the (supposedly) anonymous tip about Killacky’s Instagram post to the state’s AWARITY reporting system.

Now, granted, there’s PLENTY of blame to go around here. Yes, Palmer requested information that was supposed to be anonymous, but the OSDE GAVE IT TO HER. What the absolute HECK? What would be the purpose of something so reckless?

If they’re not anonymous and the public is told they’re anonymous, even the most ardent Walters supporters will lose faith in the system after getting doxed the first time by Oklahoma’s poor excuse for objective journalists.

Dissecting The Implications of School Choice Expert Corey DeAngelis Recent Outing As A Former Gay Adult Film Star

Oh. My. Word. Here’s where we are today; flipping through pages of social media postings about a school choice mouthpiece who has recently been accused of having a former life as a gay, adult film star.

So let’s break this latest phenomenon down, shall we?

NUMBER ONE: If you’re a professing Christian, you shouldn’t be using this story to bolster any of your own personal political points.

Every one of us is human and 90% of us have done something crazy/awful/horrifying/creepy when we were young people. We are certainly right to judge other professing Christians for their behaviors – and even call them out on them – but I don’t recall DeAngelis being one of those. In fact I have no memory of any of his talking points revolving around Jesus Christ or Biblical living.

I’ve never been a DeAngelis fan because I’m not for giving taxpayer money to other taxpayers so they can put their children in private schools at my expense, but in all honesty, I can’t imagine being Corey DeAngelis right now. He apparently married last year. He’s been wined and dined and admired as an expert by many thousands of people over many years. What a screeching halt to a rather charmed life. The kind, in fact, that should probably make each of us internalize the notion, “there but by the Grace of God go I“.

NUMBER TWO: People can change. Granted, some people never do, so there’s that, but the world is full of stories in which people overcame a life predicated on bad circumstances and/or choices to become better people – changed people. It matters not the circumstances, if they’ve rebuked their former lives and done a 180, it’s the Christian perspective to ‘forgive and forget’.

When I was in high school, I spent most of my time hanging with the stoners. I drove stoned. I went to work stoned. I was stoned a lot.

At 20, I was a married mother of one and my whole high school hanging with the stoners lifestyle went out the window as I took up the mantle of respectable, homemaker and mother. I then went on to become a respectable divorced parent putting myself through college while simultaneously raising a small person (who, incidentally, became a respectable adult).

The stuff I learned from my high school years kept me from doing further stupid stuff as an adult. The world didn’t end because I did stupid stuff, it could have actually made it a bit better because I learned some hard lessons about the consequences of doing stupid stuff that I have never forgotten.

Look, I get that acting in gay porn movies when you’re spokesman for a group touting parental ’empowerment’ and bettering kids, isn’t a small deal, but bad is bad is bad. Let’s avoid getting into an argument – for now – over what’s ‘badder’ in a ‘previous life’ – doing drugs or performing gay porn.

NUMBER THREE: We should NEVER take people who put themselves in the role of ‘expert’ on anything, at face value.

It happens over and over and over again. It’s a story as old as the hills.

A Music Man comes into town and says he’s created the world’s biggest band – with 76 trombones no less – and can do that for them! The townspeople, amazed at his eloquence, believe his pitch, throw their lot – and their money – in behind him only to find out that their marching band expert is nothing more than a conman trying to make money off the backs of naive Midwesterners.

Today, people are all too willing to believe the words of people who are deemed experts by others – or deem themselves as experts. We don’t even have to mention Anthony Fauci or anyone at the UN, or WEF here. After all, everyone knows these people are experts who deserve our complete faith, because, well, ‘science’ and all that.

Corey DeAngelis (and every other ‘school choice’ ‘expert’) is no different in any singular way.

NUMBER FOUR: There are about 99,999,999 things more important in this world than Corey DeAngelis right now and one of them is to note who IS using this information for their gain.

Trump endorsed anti-LGBTQ+ author put on leave from school choice group after his ‘gay porn past’ is discovered. Gosh, that’s not obvious – and I’m not going to add the article written by Oklahoma’s own very left blogosphere regular who loves to gleefully point out anything that jabs anyone on the right hard in the ribs.

When the left comes out of the woodwork with all kinds of garbage about anyone on the right, you know it’s to shiv them politically and skewer public opinion and trust in whatever topic it is they’ve shiv’ed them over.

IN THE END: So, all of those things, but of all of those things – this; STOP BELIEVING IN EXPERTS. People in power, STOP COURTING THEM; stop wining and dining them and giving them your Citizenship Awards, or bringing them into your office at the capitol and predicating [flawed] education policy on them.

Believe it or not, there are REGULAR people out here in the real world of non-experts who have become everyday experts just by our own experiences and we might have a thing or two to say, but we can’t because…well…experts.

July 11th, I went to the Capitol for an Ethics Commission ‘Working Group Meeting’ seeking input regarding Governor Stitt’s Ethics and Elections Executive Order.

I sat there quietly as a Democrat legislator and the head of the task force, Chairman, AJ Ferate, explained the work his group had done to satisfy the Governor’s EO. At one point during his presentation, Mr. Ferate mentioned how “his friends in Washington DC” didn’t like one of the proposals the group had made, and, after all, everyone should know that every DC swamp rat is an expert in ethics.

After all the experts in the room had spoken, the head of the Ethics Commission, Lee Anne Bruce Boone asked if there were any comments from attendees. I asked if I could go to the mic and was allowed to say a few things about what I had uncovered in my research on Dark Money in Oklahoma.

I was fascinated – but not surprised – by how many of the experts in the room seemed disinterested in what I had to say, yet they had asked Ferate and others, several questions during the session. But then again, who am I? I’m no expert. And why? Probably because the ‘real’ experts don’t want me to be.

So, instead of using the DeAngelis scandal for political gain, let’s use it to inform ourselves about what it means to be an ‘expert’ in today’s political space. Then, let’s use that knowledge to remind our elected officials that we citizens can be experts just as knowledgeable as those on FOX, or in DC – and we don’t have quite so far to fall off our pedestals.

Ashley Rolen; Fighting To Have Her Abusers Removed From Oklahoma Public Schools

Ashley Rolen submitted statements to the Little Axe school district in 2002, describing the sexual abuse that had been perpetrated on her by several coaches employed by the district.

Nothing was done either done to help Ashley, or remove the coaches. Ashley moved on with her life.

But as Ashley tells us in the full podcast (YouTube Rumble), the day she heard about Olympic physician, Larry Nassar, and the stories of the brave gymnasts who told of their sexual abuse while under his care, she knew she had to make it right – for herself and for the other girls to whom this had happened and ones to whom it might be happening now.

As an adult, Ashley filed a complaint with the Oklahoma State Department of Education under Joy Hoffmeister. She was told that they had no investigators for her case and that she’d have to do her own investigation – which she did – and returned it to the OSDE under Ryan Walters.

Still – a full year later – and nothing has been done about the coaches who abused her, nearly all of whom are still employed by the State of Oklahoma in a public school.

In the video below, Ashley talks about what needs to happen for these reports to be taken seriously by school administration and the OSDE – which she doesn’t believe is really happening now.

In the video below, V1SUT Vantage blogger, Mary, Ashley, Michael Grande and I discuss how schools are getting around mandatory sex abuse reporting laws, allowing public school employees who have abused students to just disappear from the school and wind up at another without ever being made to pay for their crimes. The level of protectionism among school staff makes it nearly impossible for reporting to occur outside the school and even then, if a school resource officer shows up to talk to the complaining parties (the student and his/her parents or guardians) with school administration, it appears that school administration feels as though that kind of scenario IS the reporting.

If Ashley’s story teaches us anything, it’s that if we’re to save Oklahoma children from sexual predators operating inside Oklahoma public schools, we have to force schools to properly INVESTIGATE and REPORT and for the OSDE to put actually put parents and students first, by having any claims investigated by the OSDE promptly and teaching certificates removed so that the perpetrators can no longer harm CHILDREN.
