Colonel Jim Putnam, Candidate for Edmond School Board – Virtual Presence Is Actual Absence

Michael and I had so much fun talking to Colonel Putman on the show Wednesday (2.26.25). I swear, that man had some of the best stories about his military career with the Air Force – and one of them is below. Just take a few minutes to watch this because it is guaranteed to make you giggle – although you can watch the entire live program on YouTube and Rumble.

But, among the stories, the Colonel had quite a bit to say about education in our state and I, for one, was bowled over by his thoughts and ideas. At one point, we were discussing ‘distance learning’ – learning out of school and what he thought about that. “Virtual presence is actual absence“, was the comment the Colonel made. How perfect is that? And no, he’s not a fan of learning on a computer in general. Just like Michael and I, the Colonel believes that learning is more functional with a paper and pencil and a teacher in a classroom.

In the clip below, we were talking about what Michael heard from teachers when he was running for school board. So much of it was about how micromanaged they were. The Col. talks about micromanagement and also about the student surveys that the district gives to students. These bother him for the same reason they’ve always bothered Michael and I – most of these surveys actually instill ideas in kid’s heads because they’ll introduce something they’ve never heard about or even thought about. That kind of thing has to stop. It’s a waste of education time and dollars because they don’t provide any real educational opportunities for students they’re just a way to collect data.

In the last clip, we talked a bit about the culture of the public schools and how many good teachers are frustrated by that. The Col. made the most common sensical comment – you don’t quit your job, you quit your boss. He then goes on to talk about how he is a huge supporter of teachers because they are on the front lines and in the classroom with the students and how they need to be supported by administration.

After Col. Putnam ‘retired’ from the podcast (lol), Michael and I start talking about some news for the week (1:15 on the video timer) and there was a lot of pretty interesting stuff there. You’ll want to check out the full video for that and I’ve embedded it below so you can.

Please – if you’re in the Edmond area, or you know someone who lives in the Edmond area – look up Colonel Putnam’s website. Get to know him and share these videos and his website with others in the area. School Boards are the most important thing in a school – they set the tone for the entire school. Let’s concentrate on getting good candidates elected to these positions all over the state!

Weekly News Headlines And Commentary – Week of February 24, 2025

ROPE2.org

This week (and last, since I wasn’t able to post last week due to a farm emergency) there are a number of new posts to the blog. Most of these are about legislation since we’re quickly reaching the date (3.6.25) for bills to switch houses (from House to Senate or vice-versa).

Republican Governor Stitt Sides With Democrats To Keep The Education Status Quo By Firing State Education Board Members Engaged In Protecting Oklahoma Kids

This is the most infuriating situation. Citing “political drama”, Governor Stitt fired three members of the State School Board on February 12th. The “political drama” apparently had to do with an agenda item on the previous week’s State School Board agenda wherein the Board would vote to find a way to count the number of ILLEGAL immigrants in Oklahoma classrooms. There is definitely some “political drama” here if not “political intrigue” and I hope to expose all that in upcoming weeks. This all stems from a very influential man in Oklahoma politics who has an R after his name, who believes illegal immigration is essentially fine and works deals with elected officials to create policies – written or not – that protect them in this state. The saddest part here is that these three board members were doing Yeoman’s work ridding Oklahoma public education of school employees that sexually abuse students. Our governor is – AGAIN – completely wrong. Read the blog for information on who was selected to replace the three removed members. None have any educational experience whatsoever, so, there’s that.

Dumping Human Waste On Farmland Must Stop

Unfortunately, we’ve lost several lambs on the farm this winter season, so I used them as the backdrop to talk about the horror show that is spreading human waste on cropland in Oklahoma. This is as bad as it sounds and now the EPA and other organizations, have shown that this material contains ‘forever chemicals’, cancer-causing molecules cause PFAS. Unfortunately, an excellent bill to stop the practice, written by new Representative Jim Shaw (from Lincoln County where this has been done regularly for many, many years) has been denied a hearing in Committee this year. This will not just hurt farmers and ranchers who use the stuff, but PFAS and other chemicals have been shown to migrate from where they were dumped and into water sources, effecting neighboring farmsteads as well. Please read the blog to find out more about the practice and why you should want this stopped even if you live in a city.

This article was published in The Federalist under the headline; “Your ‘Farm Fresh’ Produce Might Be Fertilized With Forever Chemicals And Human Waste“.

Jason Murphy Divulges The ‘Scam’ That Runs The Oklahoma Legislature

Former Representative, Jason Murphy knows a lot about the legislature, having served there a full 12 year term. Today, he is making the most of that knowledge by writing a Substack called, “The Oklahoma State Capitol“. He joined Michael and I on the podcast last week to talk about how the legislative process – at least the way its been run in recent history – is simply a shell game to keep the citizenry appeased and the lobbyists/big business interests that run the state, happy. You’ll want to read the blog to see who all these interests are so you can keep your eye out for them.

Former SD15 Candidate Robert Keyes, His Fight For Election Integrity, The Evidence In His Case And SB654 To Remove The Election Law At The Center Of It All

We’ve had Robert on the show before and his descriptions of what happened to him during his campaign for SD15. It was eye-opening. Here, he gives us some updates on his current case. This blog is SUPER IMPORTANT to read because I’ve embedded Robert’s Supreme Court documents. These documents include photographs and specific instances of the Oklahoma State Election Board irregularities over which Robert took them to court. These are MORE than eye-opening. It shows that there are real concerns with our State Election Board and the processes that govern election law in Oklahoma – and this knowledge is important to EVERY Oklahoman.

File Under, ‘Too Much Too Little Too Late’; James Lankford Comes Out Swinging In Favor Of Smaller Government

This last week, Senator Lankford has hit social media hard to capitalize on the Elon Musk/DOGE efforts at right-sizing government. Over and over again he’d Tweet (X) out a message about how government is ‘fumbling’ (a take on his 5th Federal Fumbles, just out) with spending. Unfortunately, it hit me as being pretty disingenuous because he’s never seen a budget he didn’t like. After Tweeting back at him a couple times, I decided to stop and actually write a piece on his voting record and why Lankford needs to leave DC and find a new job. In order to be fair, I went to the VOTE SMART website and looked through every one of the votes they had posted there. While some of his votes are quite good, all but one time, he’s voted for the budget and for continuing appropriations. Check out the article. Lankford may be one of your very favorite people, but at least read this knowing that I’ve been fair. If you’ve never seen his voting record, it might be pretty interesting….

This Week At The Capitol, Legislators Dick Lowe and Danny Sterling UNprotect Students With HB1937

This is a SUPER IMPORTANT article because HB1937 is still alive. Contact your Representative immediately and tell them that this must be a NO vote if it’s brought to the floor. This bill basically undoes the good legislation former Rep. Sherrie Conley had passed before she left the House that prevents public school employees from communicating with a student without the knowlege of a parent. Unfortunately, perennial public school employees Lowe and Sterling, felt that this created an undue burden for public school employees and created a bill to allow parents to ‘opt out’ of the law’s requirement. This is a really bad idea and if you’re not quite sure how, please read the piece where Michael, Mary from V1SUT and I spell it out clearly.

The New World Order Needs Compliant Kids, So Government Schools Educate Them To Be Compliant

We’ve talked about this fact many times on the podcast – the fact that we all seem to think that public schools were created to educate children – but they’re not. Here, Julianne Romanello, Michael and I talk about what public schools actually do and what the educational trend will be for students over time if we don’t STOP it now.

Citizens Of HD32 Effectively Taxed Without Representation As Representative Jim Shaw’s Bills Blocked From Hearings

If bills were not assigned to a Committee for the upcoming week (2.24), they will not get a hearing in the Oklahoma legislature this year. NONE of new Representative Jim Shaw’s bills received a hearing in a committee. Why? I make the case that Shaw’s defeat of Kevin Wallace (former House Appropriations Chair) is at the epicenter of this situation in which citizens of HD32 will be taxed without representation during the 2025 legislative session. This is unforgivable. Personal pettiness should NEVER stand in the way of the democratic process in America and certainly not in a ‘red state’ like Oklahoma.

LEGISLATION

So much legislation has been passed through Committees this session, with more coming up this week. The cell phone bill is still in play (Usurping Local Control – Cell Phone Restrictions In Oklahoma – NO on SB1389 and HB1276). Please read the article to find out the many reasons this is a BAD bill that needs to be voted down by the House and Senate both.

To be honest, with the new two-tiered committee structure in the House, it’s been hard to follow bills. I’ve been hoping that different groups following bills would let me know what’s out there and what needs to be followed, but I think the system is doing it’s job and making it hard for people to follow the legislation they want to see stopped or followed.

Citizens Of HD32 Effectively Taxed Without Representation As Representative Jim Shaw’s Bills Blocked From Hearings

Last year, political newcomer Jim Shaw, driven by the fact that he didn’t want to see wind turbines scattered all over the Oklahoma landscape, or deal with the after effects of having human sewage dumped on the fields around him, decided to run for the Oklahoma House against a very powerful, nearly-termed-out Representative, Kevin Wallace, then House Appropriations Chair.

In a surprising upset, Shaw – with an army of grassroots rural Oklahomans worried about all the same things – beat Wallace in the primary.

This was unheard of. No newcomer out of nowhere beats the House Appropriations Chair running for this 5th term. And so the RINO forces gathered.

Governor Stitt put out numerous messages urging voters in the district to vote for Wallace, including this video, where he called those advocating AGAINST Wallace “Political Animals”.

Everyone from the Speaker of the House Charles McCall, to the Speaker-Elect of the House, Kyle Hilbert, came out to little ‘ole District 32 to churn up support for House Appropriations Chair Wallace.

Speaker-Elect Kyle Hilbert stumps for Kevin Wallace in HD32

Here, you see Kevin Wallace in the background with then-Speaker-Elect Kyle Hilbert (foreground) stumping for Wallace at a campaign event in HD32.

Here is Wallace (L) with (in order), Speaker of the House Charles McCall, Governor Kevin Stitt, Thomas Tillison (broadband and other business owner/Wellston) and Grant Green, Senator for SD28, which includes Shaw’s.

With that much ammunition behind him, Wallace must not have been poling well. And then came the point where Wallace apparently got desperate, and doxed Shaw, toward the end of the campaign, posting pictures of his residence to his Facebook page.

Unfortunately for Wallace and his campaign – funded nearly 100% by special interests and business professionals – none of these measures helped. In the end Shaw prevailed in the general election by a wide margin (3,291 to 2,764).

But then came Shaw’s first day on the floor. Organizational Day, the day on which the House rules would be voted on by the House for the 2025 legislative session.

Shaw had read the rules and didn’t approve of the two-tiered Committee structure and other issues. He had studied the rules in the few days they were available to him and began to debate them on the floor, when he was tersely debated (bullied?) by Counselor to the Speaker (a new leadership position just added this year), Representative Chris Kannady – the same Chris Kannady who openly admitted to working to oust 12 Conservative Republicans from the House in 2018 for being too conservative. The same Chris Kannady attached to the Conservative Alliance PAC – used to fund the campaigns of the Conservative’s opponents – which was fined 45 thousand dollars for, among other things, not filing spending reports.

Here is the Kannady/Shaw exchange on the floor February 7th, 2025. You can find more here in the full live video on YouTube where everything that happened on the House floor during Organizational Day is broken down.

Can it be proven that leadership has blocked Shaw’s bills from hearings? No. However, a simple look at the history of the HD32 election in which Shaw challenged Wallace provides ample support of that contention. In fact, people may look at the clip of Wallace and Kannady on the floor and feel that Kannady was NOT trying to intimidate Shaw, but it is well known that Representative Kannady hates conservatives so much that he actively worked to remove 12 conservative Republicans from the House in 2018 using a PAC eventually fined for unethical actions.

In the end, it matters not the actual reasons Shaw’s bills weren’t heard in Committee because the end result will ALWAYS be the same – the people that voted Jim Shaw into office deserve to be heard. In point of fact, that concept is the MAINSTAY OF OUR REPUBLIC. One would think an attorney with the self-appointed Constitutional knowledge of Chris Kannady would know this. Even young kids know that taxation without representation is the reason colonists dressed as Native Americans and dumped tea into the Boston Harbor in December 1773.

And so it stands that because none of Representative Jim Shaw’s bills were heard in the Oklahoma House of Representatives, the effect is none other than that ALL of the citizens of HD32 have now been TAXED WITHOUT REPRESENTATION and that IS UNFORGIVEABLE.

If this is the way House leadership intends to act for the duration of the session, Oklahomans had better commit to removing each and every one of these individuals for impeding the Constitutional rights of an entire county’s worth of citizens. And just in case you don’t know who these individuals are, here is the list and the link to find them on the House website. It behooves all Oklahomans to get very familiar with these elected Representatives now and to start looking for their replacements as June 2026 looms on the horizon. Included next to the name is that Representative’s 2024 conservative index according to the Oklahoma Constitution. Without a Boston Harbor, removal and replacement will be the only way to get our point across.

The New World Order Needs Compliant Kids, So Government Schools Educate Them To Be Compliant

Friday, February 21, our ROPE Report Regular, Julianne Romanello joined us to talk about the New World Order and the School To Work Pipeline. You can see the full LIVE video on our YouTube and Rumble channels.

So what does all this mean? That’s a whole lot of jargon.

The fact of the matter is that public schools were not created to teach students to learn and excel, they were created to teach students to be compliant. Think back to the industrialists like Carnegie and Rockefeller and Ford. They needed workers. Prior to the Industrial Revolution, families had been eking out a living on a family farm. Now, business is booming in town and parents are leaving their family farms for the promise of a good wage in the city. These people weren’t highly educated and were used to working. They made wonderful workers for the Industrialists, but what about their kids? Why not create a system where they could be taught to be compliant?

Sadly, it gets worse. Here, Julianne tells us how the one thing that the rich and powerful can count on is the ‘resiliency’ of human beings and how that ‘resiliency’ can be fostered in government schools to provide the one thing they really need – a way to adapt to changing workforce needs.

This is the article Julianne references in the video. You can see by just a cursory review of the article how people are using computer programs, for example, to mold students into ‘resilient’, ‘adaptable’ people who can ‘take on any job’. The article lists out why Impact Investing is so bad all the way around – not just for student autonomy.

In the video below, Julianne, Michael and I all talk about how education – as done by government schools – is completely off base. How it functions to create compliant students and not students who can really think about things critically.

Luckily, some parents have seen this and are already homeschooling their children. Those of us who have, should work as hard as we can to get other parents to remove their children from the system before its too late for them and for society.

If you’re interested in what a great education looks like and you’re interested in homeschooling, I 100% recommend Classical Conversations as a way to start your homeschooling journey because they use the Classical Education model I feel works to provide kids the best education possible. You might also get ideas from a blog I wrote years ago about why I homeschooled my kids.

As always, if you have questions, please reach out to me and I’m happy to do what I can to help you get started on YOUR journey toward fully educating your kids! Just email me at jenni@rope2.org.

This Week At The Capitol, Legislators Dick Lowe and Danny Sterling UNprotect Students With HB1937

Wednesday, February 19th, Michael and I welcomed back our friend ‘Mary’ with V1SUT to talk about a couple of items. Check out the full LIVE video on our YouTube and Rumble channels. We always have some great discussions and the only way to catch those is watching the full video.

First, we talked about the fact that – with the onset of DOGE – we’re learning how USAID has funded billions of dollars in research and social activism to undermine the Republic and the way citizens think about America.

One of the ways this has occurred is through the financing of grants to organizations such as Oklahomans for Equality which has then used the funds to push out messaging and other support for LGBTQIA+ issues in Bartlesville. Mary has written several articles about the influence of this group on the town and how this has effected residents. So controversial has been their methodology, that Bartlesville’s last city council elections saw 3 out of 5 city councilman ousted by the citizenry over the issue of allowing public drag shows sponsored by Oklahomans For Equality.

Mary’s blog on the topic at V1SUT Substack is quite good. You should check it out.

We also discussed HB1937 a bill to essentially undo the bill written last year (HB3958) by Sherrie Conley that prevents public school employees from having conversations with students through any medium without a parent present on the thread to overwatch.

Chairman and Vice-Chairman of the House Common Education Committee, Dick Lowe and Danny Sterling (respectively) wrote HB1937 because they believed it was too cumbersome for parents and coaches to have to see every conversation with students, essentially UNprotecting students. The bill passed the Common Education Committee 8-5 with the Speaker of the House voting.

Take a very hard look at who voted YES WITH THE DEMOCRATS. Below, Mary talks more about the bill and the vote and how this bill puts children at risk because parents may feel pressured to opt out, leaving their kid unprotected. Lowe and Sterling appear to be more for the status quo than protecting kids.

In the video below Mary talks about how educators are doing a great job at covering for other educators, but not protecting children – which is really their FIRST RESPONSIBILITY. Mary also mentions that maybe one or both Sterling or Lowe had been involved in ‘passing the trash’ before, as she asked them for a comment on that very issue and neither responded. Find out more in her Substack.

This bill has yet to have a hearing in the Education Oversight Committee, but those are ad hoc committees that only require a 24 hour agenda notice (for some reason), so PLEASE, email the members of the Education Oversight Committee and ask them to VOTE NO on HB1937.

File Under, ‘Too Much Too Little Too Late’; James Lankford Comes Out Swinging In Favor Of Smaller Government

Government score taken from the Freedom Index.

Recently, Senator James Lankford has been Tweeting (X’ing?) about the number of US tax dollars our government is wasting. He points to the fact that he’s released his 8th ‘Federal Fumbles’ report this month (2.25) and includes some kind of instance where the government is screwing over taxpayers.

This is frustrating and I clapped back on a couple of the posts I found.

I helped start a group called the OKC912Project in 2008 after Barrack Obama was elected. In 2010, when Lankford ran for his first office, he appeared before the OKC912Project to interview. At that time, he assured us he would help stop Obamacare. He also indicated that he was in favor of smaller government, but that he felt it important to work with others toward consensus. Most of us were very keen on removing government-controlled health care, so I don’t think we worried too much about the idea of consensus as we were expecting that to mean that he’d work with other Tea Party-elected legislators to stop what we felt was the socializing of our American government.

The first year he ran for Congress, I voted for Lankford. I have not darkened a single oval for him since that time for numerous, numerous reasons – I’ve just left the space for ‘Congressman’ or ‘Senator’ blank in the general election after having voted for another candidate in the primary.

Because I want to be fair, I took some time and reviewed every Lankford vote listed on Vote Smart. It was eye-opening. Now let me say this as a disclaimer – there are a LOT of votes listed there in the 15 years he’s been in DC – I’ve done my best and I may have missed a thing here or there, so realize that as you read. I’ve mentioned a few single votes, but the most important thing here is the pattern of voting.

At first I thought his votes were all over the place, but then I realized there was a pattern (I’ve included some of the votes at the bottom of this post FYI).

Here’s the pattern: solid support against socialized medicine (Obamacare), solid support for 2A, solid support against abortion, solid support for funding the military – a pattern almost right out of the Republican playbook, though the military funding issues is more than problematic.

This funding is funding with no oversight. This is funding because “I support our military”. Well, ok. A good chunk of Americans still support the military, but to an extent – they’re certainly not for throwing money at the military without oversight or reason. Part of the reason we have the military industrial complex stoking our national debt is votes like Lankford’s.

But here’s where we really diverge. Lankford supports the continuation of government funding.

He’s voted for nearly every budget and nearly every continuing appropriation over the years. What’s worse, he’s solidly for bills that strengthen the Patriot Act and/or government spying on its citizens. For Pete sakes, he voted for the COVID-19 HATE CRIMES BILL and then justified it by saying that he and Inhofe and another senator added an amendment to protect life! Would these bills have passed even if he had voted no? YES. But the fact that ‘my no vote doesn’t matter’ is not the reason to add a ‘good’ amendment and then vote for a bad bill.

Then there are the votes to keep the military stationed in Iran, Iraq and Yemen. And possibly worse than anything to so many Americans, are the votes to fund OTHER NATIONS while American taxpayers foot the bill. Examples here include voting to aid Syrian opposition, voting yes on the 95 BILLION foreign aid package last year and sending aid to the US border to help the illegals swamping the country.

Of course, for many Oklahomans/Americans, the fact that Lankford voted to certify the Biden election was the nail in the coffin of their support.

Yet there are just as many souls who support Lankford on the basis that he is a Christian and a ‘sweet man’ who worked for a short time at one of the largest Baptist summer camps in the nation. Their analysis of his votes aren’t necessarily important, he keeps babies safe and loves his fellow man. In the face of opposition, or confrontation with his votes, these people often claim that he couldn’t have done anything because ‘Republicans weren’t in control then’.

Here are the number of years Republicans have been in control since Lankford was elected.

There were at least a couple there with Republican control, where Republicans could have worked together to make some lasting changes protecting the American people, but that’s not really the point. The point is the ideology at play here.

It doesn’t matter whether he could have ‘done’ something or not, Lankford’s votes tell the tale. That, and the 3 and 4 page explainers that respond to criticisms from constituents and other citizens that justify every vote as though any criticisms are silly because, well, he knows better. He has always seemed to believe that Oklahomans sent him to DC to do what HE thought was best, not to do what the CITIZENS thought best.

Lankford’s votes tell us that he trusts government. They tell us he thinks the military is great – whether there are generals protecting a soldier’s right to wear dresses or not. They tell us he thinks government is trustworthy and would never spy on its citizens without provocation and if there was provocation, the citizen probably deserved to be spied upon, or that it’s a shame they were ‘accidentally’ caught in a net that caught a very bad person. They tell us he thinks all life is precious – and so much so – that he must vote to send Oklahoman/American taxpayers dollars to other countries to protect their citizens, even while liberals here scream that America is bad and President Trump should be impeached. And all the while the debt clock keeps ticking, whether Americans see the amount of debt piling up around them or not.

Is James Lankford a nice person? Yes – even when people aren’t kind to him. His office even helped our family get one of our children out of a National Guard deployment during COVID that became abusive and unjust and I’ve been one of his biggest critics since his first term as a Congressman.

Does Lankford vote wrong every time? No. He certainly came out strong for all of Trump’s cabinet picks this year and has definitely voted against some very destructive policies over the years. But these are exceptions to the pattern and the pattern is destructive to American sovereignty, national debt and the right of citizens to their privacy.

Unfortunately for Lankford, it’s time for Oklahomans to understand this and to ask him to let someone else take a stab at the job after 15 years. It’s time for James Lankford to move on.

Former SD15 Candidate Robert Keyes, His Fight For Election Integrity, The Evidence In His Case And SB654 To Remove The Election Law At The Center Of It All

On Valentine’s Day, former SD15 candidate, Robert Keyes caught us up on his fight for election transparency in Oklahoma. It was a very interesting podcast and you can find the full live version on our YouTube and Rumble channels.

Robert ran for Senate against Lisa Standridge, the wife of previous office holder, Rob Standridge, who had termed out of office.

It is Keyes’ contention – which has not been proven wrong – that Lisa Standridge’s campaign manager broke Oklahoma election law by notarizing and collecting absentee ballots – something neither members of a campaign or the candidate can do according to existing state law.

Keyes lost by 51 votes and following the close of the election, his team of attorneys were able to document 41 instances of election irregularities – fifty-one of which would overturn the results. Robert recounts that the State Election Board (SEB) was not only not helpful in helping him get to the bottom of these irregularities, they actually blocked him from discovering information.

After the irregularities were discovered and documented – including the little nugget below

– Keyes and his attorneys came to an agreement with the Standridge’s attorneys and the SEB at a closed meeting that would allow the SEB to certify the election for Standridge while insuring Keyes that – among other points – the irregularities would be investigated. Unfortunately, when it was time to implement the agreement – both parties refused to uphold the agreement as promised to Keyes.

Dissatisfied with the outcome, Keyes – court reported documents from the meeting in hand – took both the SEB and the Standridge’s to the Oklahoma Supreme Court. The Supreme Court punted the case to Cleveland County Justice Jeff Virgin, who refused to make a ruling.

As an aside, the Honorable Judge Virgin is the son of longtime Norman attorney Blake Virgin, and the brother of Emily Virgin, formerly serving as a Democrat in the Oklahoma House of Representatives.

Hopefully, you’re scratching your head in wonder at why NO ONE in the commission of justice in central Oklahoma wants to attempt to UPHOLD JUSTICE and if you’re not, you should be. This situation should create actual fear in the citizenry of Oklahoma that Democracy in a state where all 77 counties voted for Trump – is dead.

Below is the Keyes case before the Oklahoma Supreme Court. Scroll through it and you will see the MANY, MANY examples of irregularities in Keyes’ election. This isn’t a complaint without merit from Keyes. There is substantial information here to suggest that our state’s election process is marred – and possibly improper – as I alleged during the time I was an alternate Oklahoma County Election Board member.

This is a short video of Mr. Keyes talking about the frustration he has surrounding this election – the number of irregularities that were found and the lack of ANY justice official willing to investigate the findings. In fact, he says that one of the most frustrating thing about his entire election has been that he believes there are bigger problems with the SEB than just one election.

Another very unfortunate and frustrating issue adjacent to this case, is the fact that Senate Pro Temp Lonnie Paxton – who narrowly won election to the Pro Temp post over challenger David Bullard – has authored SB654, which removes the 2 sections of law allegedly broken by Standridge’s campaign. While I’m all for repealing laws, these two pieces of Oklahoma election law SHOULD NOT BE REMOVED and, to me, it’s actually quite suspicious that this bill was authored in the first place after a close campaign with irregularities in which both the SEB and Standridges refused to uphold an agreed upon resolution.

This entire case should be concerning to every Oklahoma interested in election integrity in Oklahoma. We’ll continue to follow this case and bring you updates, however, we ask that you share this information with your friends – no matter WHAT political affiliation they may be – because without elections we can trust, we have very little by which to call ourselves Americans – let alone Oklahomans.

ADDENDUM: I think it might be important to note here that in 2008, Glenn Coffee – a long-time Oklahoma attorney – was Senate Co-Pro Temp. He appointed Paul Ziriax as Secretary of the State Election Board and Secretary of the Senate. Coffee was followed by Pro Temp Brian Bingman who continued Ziriax’ appointment. Bingman was followed by Pro Temp Greg Treat who also continued Ziriax’ appointment. Treat was followed by Pro Temp Lonnie Paxton, who also continued Ziriax’ appointment.

It is also interesting to note that Glenn Coffee has been hired to be the ‘Senior Legal Consultant’ to the Senate Republican Caucus this year by Ryan Overholt, the Senate’s Chief of Staff. Coffee, who made millions of dollars on the state’s opioid lawsuit, has left a thriving law practice to come to work for the Oklahoma Senate for $12,500 per month for 12 months. This seems like a step down, which prompts a number of questions.

Senate Leader Chooses Paul Ziriax for Dual Post in Senate/Election Board

November 20, 2008 | 12:32am

Senate President Pro Tempore Designate Glenn Coffee has announced his choice for Secretary of the Senate and State Election Board Secretary. Paul Ziriax, who has held the title of Leadership Assistant at the State Senate for the past six years, has been named to the dual posts.

The Pro Tempore selects the Secretary of the Senate, who must then be elected by a majority of members. Under Oklahoma law that individual also serves as State Election Board Secretary.

“Paul’s experience in both state and national government positions have prepared him well for these new responsibilities,” Coffee said. “I also know him to be a man of tremendous character and intellect, with an abiding respect for the political process and democracy. I know he will do an outstanding job on behalf of the people of Oklahoma.”

“Oklahoma has a national reputation for the efficient way in which our elections are conducted, and Michael Clingman should be commended for the great job he’s done as Secretary of the Senate and Secretary of the State Election Board,” stated Coffee. “I wish Michael the best of luck in his new role as director of the Office of State Finance.”

Before coming to work for the Senate, Ziriax was the Chief of staff and press secretary to former U.S. Congressman Wes Watkins. He serves on the State Capitol Preservation Commission and is a member of the Legislative Information and Communication Staff Section and Leadership Staff Section of the National Conference of State Legislatures. Ziriax earned a degree in Business Administration and Finance from Oklahoma State University, and is a member of the OSU Alumni Association.

The Secretary of the Senate directs the floor staff and oversees the preparation of daily printing and general publications and the content of forms used by the Senate for various reports and procedures. The Secretary is the custodian of all Senate records and provides assistance to the President Pro Tempore and the presiding officer. The State Election Board Secretary is the chief administrative officer of the State Election Board.

“I am deeply honored by the faith Senator Coffee has placed in me,” Ziriax said. “I have some big shoes to fill. I am thrilled with this new opportunity, and look forward to continuing my public service.”

Ziriax, age 37, is a native of Claremore, Oklahoma, but currently resides in Edmond with his wife, Lisa, and their nearly 2-year-old daughter, Allie. They are members of Faith Bible Church in Edmond.

The full Senate will vote on Ziriax’s appointment when they return for an organizational day on January 6, 2009.

Jason Murphy Divulges The ‘Scam’ That Runs The Oklahoma Legislature

Former member of the Oklahoma House of Representatives, Jason Murphy, joined Michael and I on the podcast Wednesday, 2.12.25 for a discussion on legislative procedure. You can find the full live video on YouTube and on Rumble.

This year, the House has instituted a new way of doing things. Instead of going to ONE Committee for a hearing, there are now TWO Committees a bill must pass through before moving to the floor for a vote of all Representatives.

It used to work something like this for both Senate and House – I’m going to use an education bill since that’s what I’ve worked on forever:

A bill was introduced – that bill was assigned to the Common Education Committee – the members of the Committee voted yes or no – a bill voted out of the Committee with a majority went to the Floor Leader who scheduled it on the Floor (for all legislators to hear) calendar – the bill was brought to the Floor where it was voted on – the bill then moved to the other house to start virtually the same procedure over again.

This is not the way the procedure in the House works this year. Since the election of the youngest Speaker in House history, Kyle Hilbert, things have been different.

Now, if the members of the Common Education Committee pass the bill, the bill goes to an OVERSIGHT Committee who hears the bill. Then, if the bill passes out of Committee, it can go to the Floor Leader who can determine to hear the bill on the floor.

Now, let’s look at this. Below are the members of the Common Ed Committee.

These are the members of the Education Oversight Committee.

Are you going to remember those names? Well, you’d better, because if you want to call the members of a Committee to make sure they vote a certain way on a bill, now you’ll have to call members of TWO Committees.

This was all instituted as a way to make the process of a bill becoming a law in the House more transparent, but so far, I’ve had a terrible time trying to make heads or tails of it and I’ve been watching legislation nearly 15 years.

I argue (and so does Jason), that it makes the process LESS transparent than before.

Stop and think. How many times does leadership have the opportunity to kill a good bill and pass a bad one? LOTS.

  • The leadership chooses the Chairs of the committees
  • The leadership assigns the bill to a committee – to what committee the bill is assigned makes a difference
  • The Chair decides what bills are heard in his/her committee – and that happens TWICE. A Chair doesn’t have to hear a bill in the first committee and the Chair of the second committee doesn’t have to hear a bill even if it’s passed out of the first committee
  • The leadership picks the Floor Leader and the Floor Leader can determine whether OR NOT a bill is heard on the Floor of the House (or Senate)
  • Even if the bill is voted in the affirmative by the Representatives in the House, it might not be assigned to a committee on the senate
  • and then the whole process starts over

Where do The People fit in here? Jason tells us…

…we’re the ones getting ‘scammed’.

Nope, I don’t like it any more than you do, but this has been the way of the legislature for as long as I can remember. It’s a scam. It’s meant to make us think we have some control, but it’s not ‘by the people, of the people, for the people’, it’s ‘by the lobbyists and big business, of the lobbyists and big business ‘for the lobbyists and big business’. We have only to look at those who sponsored this year’s Speaker’s Ball to get a good idea of who rules the roost.

So how do we fix this? We band together and GET GOOD PEOPLE ELECTED WHO WON’T FALL FOR THE SCAM. There is no other way. There just isn’t. But then, once we get them elected, we need to stay on them like white on rice to make sure they’re not falling for the SCAM!

True, it’s work, but Benjamin Franklin once famously said to a woman on the street in Philadelphia who asked him what form of government the Continental Congress had created for the country, “A Republic, ma’am. If you can keep it.”

Dumping Human Waste On Farmland Must Be Stopped

We lost our third sheep of the week last night and I fell asleep – exhausted – on a pillow wet with tears.

She was an adorable little ‘elf-eared’ lamb that had been born too small and apparently with a heart condition. We brought her in to the house when we noticed her odd respirations and I struggled all day to save her, but her heart gave out about 10 minutes after I’d turned out the light and laid down on my sleeping bag next to her so she could still feel part of a flock.

Though I had to see her die, I got the joy of watching her have what we call, a baby ‘lamb’ dream about five minutes before. Happily, she’d gotten comfortable enough for a few minutes at least, to start feeling as though she was running through the grass, her little legs pawing the air as she lay otherwise quietly on her side.

Earlier in the week, we’d been forced to put down an ewe who had twin 6-week-old lambs at her side because of a fast-moving skin cancer that started on her eyelid. We thought she could make it until the lambs were weaned – and she was close – but we hadn’t noticed that her milk had dried up as her body fought the illness. Consequently, dehydrated, and hypothermic thanks to the super cold we’ve been having, we lost the little girl and had to take the little boy to the vet to become the 6-million-dollar lamb.

Though this is often the kind of thing farmers deal with, I can’t help wondering if there might be something more at play.

Farmers Hurting Farmers

My husband and I have a little 10-acre farm where we raise chickens, ducks, turkeys, a completely loveable (but ungrateful) mother/daughter donkey pair, four dogs and two small flocks of sheep. We happily exist without government subsidies and we wedge our sometimes-burgeoning vet bills into our one salary budget and struggle to make ends meet.

In the nine years we’ve farmed it, our place has never turned a profit, but our large garden – and the sheep – would absolutely keep us able to feed ourselves if the crap ever hit the fan and that means a lot to us.

Where I live, there are tons of little farmers like us who don’t go to the sale barn with their cattle herds or time the market so they can make the most of their soybean crop. I support the bigger, independent ranchers and farmers out here, though, because they feed a lot of people in our area and beyond. That is, to a point.

There are some even bigger differences between us and some of them beyond size. For instance, we won’t pour ‘free’ human sewage on ANY of our pastures, like some of our bigger neighbors who use this as a way to keep from having to buy expensive commercial fertilizers.

Yes, you read that right. Human sewage – the solid remnants of wastewater treatment plants, which is collected, dried, ‘treated’ and then provided to farmers as FREE fertilizer.

I had no idea about any of this until about 5 years ago when a neighbor/homeschool friend told me about the process.

Dumping Human Waste On Farmland Stinks

Saundra has a farm where she and her husband raise American Mammoth donkeys, which they milk (yes, like a cow). Studies indicate that donkey milk is one of the best substances in the world for treating numbers of human ailments. She not only sells the milk to appreciative families, but she uses it to make a line of soaps and beauty products for sale on her website.

One day when we had our kids at co-op, Saundra began telling me about the practice of dumping human waste on farmland. She told me she’d first found out about it after smelling something horrible coming from her neighbor’s property. After visiting with the neighbors and finding that they were literally spreading human feces on the land next door to her donkey dairy, she began to do lots of research.

Essentially, biosludge/humanure/biosolids, contain ANYTHING that goes down a sewer and into a water treatment plant. Anything: viruses, bacteria, hormones, pharmaceuticals, heavy metals and products from industrial processes, including PFAS – known cancer-causing chemicals used in things like firefighting foam and waterproofing compounds that are classified as ‘forever’ chemicals, because removing them from the environment is virtually impossible.

This disgusting concoction is trucked out to pastures, sprayed or dumped onto the land and disc’ed into the soil with a tractor. Unfortunately, neighbors often report seeing biosludge resting on the top of the soil like a toxic coat for weeks, or even months and – during that time – the smell is palpable. Truly – even if it’s disc’ed in – the odor is unlike anything that can be described; an unholy union between something toxically chemical and something about midway through the decay process.

We’ve had it dumped near us and what’s worse, months after the original horrific assault to the senses, when it rains, the smell comes back as bad, or worse, than before.

But the smell tells only part of the story. The rest resides in the ground, where that slurry of chemicals and human waste can leach through the ground, or runoff into water sources that livestock and people drink, or get baked into the hay fed to livestock, that are then fed to people.

Human Waste + Farmland = Toxic Produce

Maine has had its share of destruction from this practice. Farmer after farmer has been forced out of business due to the ripples of PFAS toxicity across Maine’s cropland and water supplies.

In 2021, Maine was testing 34 towns found to have substantial PFAS contamination – including a town where one farm produced milk with more than 150 times the state standard level. By 2022, Maine had become the first state in the union to ban the spreading of biosludge, yet today, PFAS contamination due to biosludge ‘fertilizer’ has been found on over 100 Maine farms and 500 residential properties.  For consumers buying locally to provide ‘healthier’ food choices, this is truly concerning.

Unfortunately, Maine isn’t the only state struggling with PFAS contamination from biosludge.

In Texas, concerned landowners are speaking out against the practice after two Texas farms have sued Synagro – a company which provides biosludge ‘fertilizer’ to farmers – for not being transparent about the chemicals in their wastewater slurry. Dead fish and calves from affected farms have been tested by the county and found to have “30,000 times higher than EPA’s standard for daily [PFAS] exposure”.

In Oklahoma, where Synagro also distributes ‘free’ biosludge to farmers in east central Oklahoma where Saundra and I live, farmers like us have been speaking out against the practice for years, but our pleas have fallen on deaf ears at the state Capitol.

Shane Jett, an Oklahoma Senator who is one of a very few lawmakers fighting to curtail and/or ban the practice in Oklahoma, recently summed up the issue with enormous clarity, “Effectively, we have a government agency [municipalities] that is colluding – to save money, or make money – with a private corporation [wastewater treatment companies] competing with the private sector and they’re assuring us that it’s ‘safe and effective’. Does that sound like anything we’ve heard before?”

Free Doesn’t Mean “Good”

And this is the tale. Farmers want to save money, so they take biosludge to use as ‘fertilizer’ from companies that promise they’ve tested the constituents of the slurry, and municipalities that pay hundreds of thousands of dollars to wastewater treatment companies like Synagro to rid themselves of their municipal waste. Farmers then defend the practice because it saves them thousands of dollars and they’re told it’s ‘safe and effective’ by everyone from the EPA to their local environmental quality agency .

Yet, if the Texas lawsuit against Synagro tells us anything, it’s that something is missing in the transparency of the process that’s leaving farmers and – down the line – consumers at risk.

In 2020, while I was Mayor of our little town, Saundra gave a presentation to our town board about the dangers of PFAS contamination through biosludge. Our town has a very high water table which provides a very real possibility of PFAS percolation through the soil, or run off from the soil, into our local aquifer. Our Town Council sided with Saundra and became the first (and so far only) Town in Oklahoma to ban the practice of spreading biosludge on farmland, even after a presentation from a California-based Synagro employee designed to show us the rainbows and unicorns associated with its use.

Many legislators make this issue about property rights. “It’s the landowner’s decision to use this on their land”, they’ll tell us – more than likely after a waste-water treatment lobbyist has dropped by to suggest they should be protected from lawsuits resulting from biosludge application – but it’s not. Your property rights end when they infringe upon mine and I have just as much right to clean water and chemical-free produce as everyone else who buys “farmfresh” produce expecting it to mean what it says.

And I can’t help but wonder, as I bury my little ‘elf-eared’ lamb this morning, if her condition – or the other ewe’s – had anything to do with our well-water. Is it contaminated with PFAS thanks to all the biosludge dumping in my area? I can’t know. I haven’t tested. But I shouldn’t have to – if farmers won’t stop dumping biosludge on their property, the state should stop them. It’s the only way to ensure consumers that “farm fresh” actually means what it implies.
