How Oklahoma Property Taxes Are Calculated and Who/What Really Owns Your Property

The most important hour and half you will ever spend is the hour and a half I spent talking to former McClain County Auditor turned Oklahoma Senator, Kendal Sacchieri, about how property taxes are calculated and who really owns your property. You really should take the time to watch the whole live episode of the ROPE Report from yesterday, January 15th (2025). You can find it here on YouTube and on Rumble.

As a citizen of Oklahoma, I absolutely DESPISE the fact that if I don’t pay my property taxes, the county will take my home away from me, sell it and pay whatever taxes I owe. Seriously. I may have a title to my house, but it won’t matter one whit if I don’t make good on my tax bill every year.

Below is the breakdown on the property taxes for a home in northwest Oklahoma City, done by the Oklahoma County Assessor. The property tax bill below that is from the McClain County Assessor’s office. Kendal told me that if your property tax bill doesn’t look like the blue one, you should ask your county Treasurer to break down the county property taxes into mills so that homeowners can better see the distribution of their tax dollars..

Note which entity is FAR AND AWAY the largest tax? Now let me ask two questions; 1. Do you feel your property taxes are too high? and 2. Have you voted on YES on a school bond?

Keep these things in mind when you watch the video below.

Now, watch this video clip. Trust me when I say it will be THE MOST IMPORTANT 7 MINUTE VIDEO OF YOUR LIFE AS AN OKLAHOMA HOME OWNER.

If you’re not throwing things at your video screen and freaking out a bit after watching those clips, we can’t be friends.

Basically, what Senator Sacchieri said was, that you don’t own your own property because of a scam that allows public schools to get more and more and more money every year NO MATTER THEIR OUTCOMES. Can’t teach kids how to read? Get more money. Can’t teach kids how to write a paragraph that makes sense? Get more money? Can’t teach kids to count back change or figure the percentage of something? Get more money. THAT IS NUTS.

Unfortunately, we, as citizens simply haven’t understood the process of property taxation well enough to stop it in the past, evidently. Fortunately, we have the Senator to TEACH us the process. Now, that she’s educated us, we need to do several things.

  1. We need to just drive our legislators crazy asking for a bill to put a state question on a general election ballot to remove the language from the state Constitution that allows counties to collect property taxes. The state has nothing to do with property taxes. Property taxes in Oklahoma are generated at the COUNTY level and go to the COUNTY entities you see in my example above. Once the language is removed, the county has no ability to FORCE property taxes.
  2. Toward the end of the full video, Kendal and I talk about the County Excise Boards. This is an important thing for you to know about. The Excise Board is a group of people who meet after the County Assessor has turned in home valuations and the county entities have decided how much in taxes they must recoup to make their budgets. The decide whether or not the budgets proposed by the entities are sound and reasonable and how much the entity will be allowed to tax your property. They must hold public hearings on the budgets submitted, allowing citizen comment. You can find your Excise Board meetings through your county office. Here is the list of Boards and Commissions for Oklahoma County. In Kingfisher, after a multimillion dollar lawsuit against a football coach for ‘hazing’ (physical abuse), the school added the lawsuit burden to their budget, expecting the taxpayers to foot the bill. The Kingfisher Excise Board members rejected the budget, forcing Kingfisher to cut their budget to pay the lawsuit. This was HUGE. This kind of thing almost never happens, but then I would imagine there are few – if any citizens – that would go to a meeting to protest a budget that would increase their property taxes. Learn about your Excise Board.
  3. Your School Board is VERY IMPORTANT. Go to these meetings. If your school proposes a school bond – PROTEST. They MUST have open meetings and they MUST allow citizen comments. If they won’t, band together and send out literature to the district warning residents of what a vote on the bond can do to their property tax rates. As my neighbors and I found out, it was much cheaper to band together to stop a school bond by creating a flier and splitting postage and copying costs and sending it out to district voters, than it was to have our property rates jacked up.

BOTTOM LINE: Citizens have the ability to stop property tax increases through the means above. We also have the ability to have our lawmakers act on our behalf by proposing legislation for a state question to remove the ability for counties to collect property tax. If we do neither, we simply can’t complain.

Our Wide-Ranging Interview With Kendra Wesson, Oklahoma State School Board Member

Wednesday, January 8th, Michael and I welcomed OK State Department of Education Board member, Kendra Wesson.

Our chat went all over the place – which was great! We really had the opportunity to delve into a number of issues that parents – and taxpayers alike could appreciate. Find the FULL live video on both our YouTube or our Rumble channels.

In the clip below, after talking a bit about how happy we were that the State Board was beginning to keep students safe by finally pulling the teaching licenses of Oklahoma public school teachers and staff who had been investigated for sexual misconduct, Kendra made some amazing statements about the lives young people have to live today. It’s a short clip, but it’s so important to hear her take on “blurry boundaries”.

In another hit-it-out-of-the-park moment, as we were talking about the controversy surrounding Oklahoma state grade cards and the recent change in testing cut scores, Kendra makes the point that if parents would just have their kids read to them from a book on a regular basis, cut score kerfuffles would be almost meaningless…

Kendra is so right! Parents need to step up instead of letting their schools take over parenting of their kids. A missed education will never be caught up. Our friend, public school teacher/administrator Sandy Harrell taught us that.

Weekly News Headlines And Commentary – Week of January 13th, 2025

Oklahoma Government Is Turning Our Kids Into Commodities – The Women Of Broken Trust Speak Out

ROPE Report – This is the write-up from our visit with Sherrie Conley, Dayna Mooney and Roberta Lewis of the new non-profit “Broken Trust”.

Peter Murphy of CFACT; Green Energy is “pure crony capitalism”

ROPE Report – Lots of links with the clips from last Friday when Michael and I interviewed Peter Murphy. You might want to send this article to your legislator!

Oklahoma House lawmaker takes on second role as government affairs manager

The Oklahoman – I’m not sure how we’re not to see this as a major conflict of interest. How does one sit on the board of an organization – certainly one like the Freedom From Religion Foundation – without that influencing your legislative votes? How do you lobby for a group and then NOT vote in a way that would further their cause on the floor of the House?

Rep. Dollens says he can do it because he’ll vote the way his constituents want, but then there’s this; Dollens’ new job will be to, “identify[ing] and advance[ing] key legislative priorities, building coalitions in strategic states and developing initiatives to counter Christian nationalism”. Interestingly, he then goes on to say in basically just the next paragraph that he is “in no way a lobbyist.” Since he just articulated the definition of lobbyist in the prior sentence, I’m very confused. Does that mean Rep. Dollens is as well?

Federal Agency Gains Access to Monitor Guthrie Oklahoma Residents Through City Surveillance System

Sooner Sentinel – The Sentinel tells us in this installment, that the ATF has been allowed access to automatic license plate reader (ALPR) data by the Guthrie Police Department. What? Essentially, just like we learned from Rep. Tom Gann’s interim study on ALPRs, the contract that Guthrie PD has signed with ALPR data group FLOCK. This is – I would hope – obviously, distressing. Police departments should not be using FLOCK because they share their data with so many other organizations. But then again, just recently the Sentinel told us how the City of Edmond refused an open records request for information on with whom exactly the City was sharing their ALPR data, so how would we really know. ALPR cameras must go IMO.

Government Created Pathogens: Will MAHA Finally Expose Origins of Lyme Disease?

V1SUT – Well this was an interesting departure from the articles we usually share from V1SUT, but BOY was it interesting. She makes a pretty darn good argument that Lyme disease was a lab-created, warfare disease. It’s a bit long, but fascinating. When you have a minute read it. But careful though, it might red-pill you if you’re not already! LOL

The Fool Has Said…

Shooting The Oklahoma Breeze Substack – really, quite a great commentary on the environmental movement. It’s short and very well-written, so at least scan it. His thesis is that the climate change narrative is given to us by fools who are too arrogant and consumed by elitism to realize they are even fools. Jesus is the only person who can save the planet, so we’re sitting with fools if we believe we’re somehow going to ‘fix’ the planet via any of the climate crowd’s ridiculous nonsense. I would add, that the best way to fix the planet IMO is reducing, reusing and recycling as individuals. Also, instead of technology companies focusing on things like AI that will not only eventually harm us, but eat up massive amounts of energy, they should focus on how better to recycle the things we’re taking from the earth NOW so that more people can use them a second time.

Court Strikes Down Biden’s Title IX Trans Overhaul Nationwide

The Federalist – YES! But it would have been nicer had they sped up the process a bit so we didn’t have to fight over boys in girls’ restrooms. With Trump coming into office, I expect that this stupidity will start to die off. If not, he – and we; in our own localities – should put the nail in that coffin. Another piece of nonsense that the Left had to dream up for their Utopian vision to be complete, so GOOD RIDDANCE.

Edmond, Moore, Stillwater districts shine in latest edition of Oklahoma State Report Card

The Oklahoman – Who really knows for certain what the Department of Educational Quality and Accountability office is doing with the state report cards. It was reported that the data had changed for the year and that cut scores had been changed, but there is nothing on the website I could find that explains how the data was crunched. If we don’t know how the data was collected, how do we know what to think of the scores? We talked to Kendra Wesson about that briefly in our conversation from last Wednesday, but even she wasn’t clear, she just mentioned that the differences in scores from then to now were not outrageous in the scores she’d spot checked.

You can scan the article to see some scores reported for mainly central Oklahoma schools.

WAIT! I just went out to find the article on Oklahoma’s cut scores only to find out that Wisconsin and Ohio changed their cut scores – I didn’t have time to look for other states. So, because the A-F grading for schools was federally mandated in Obama’s ‘Race To The Top’ program in order for schools to get federal dollars, I’m thinking there might be something going on at the federal level that sparked the change. I don’t know and don’t have time to research it I’m sorry to say, but I think the chances are good…

Right of First Refusal Laws Benefit Utilities, Not Consumers

Real Clear Energy – YIKES! I didn’t know anything about this, but we’d better start looking to get rid of any “right of first refusal” laws that might have previously been passed, or that might be passed this year. Here’s the explanation RCE gives:

“The proposed bills would give electric utilities in these states a “right of first refusal” (ROFR) to build, own, and operate new transmission lines in their service area, preventing new projects from being competitively bid on by other energy companies.  These bills would eliminate a key element of competition from the part of electricity grid development known as transmission planning.”

Bergstrom Introduces Legislation to Strengthen Classroom Integrity and Transparency

Oklahoma Senate Media – Although I’ve not read these bills myself yet, it looks as if these are the bills we need to help keep predators out of the classrooms and to help parents remove pornographic library books. We’ll definitely have to watch these. SB346 and SB348

Ryan Walters asks lawmakers for millions for Bible mandate, legal fights

The Oklahoman – I can say that this article finally has something upon which the Superintendent and I can agree fully – THE FEDERAL EDUCATION DEPARTMENT SHOULD BE SHUTTERED FOREVER.

Basically, however, this article is about Walters’ meeting with the state Senate education budget subcommittee where he submitted a request for…. drumroll please….. $3.95 billion dollars – which includes 3 million dollars Walters wants to spend on classroom Bibles.

Billion. Think on that. A BILLION dollars spent on Oklahoma public education systems graduating a vast majority of students who aren’t proficient in either reading or math. I want my money back. What a horrible return on ‘investment’ <eye roll>.

What’s Driving the Rise in Non-Denominational Christianity? You Might Be Surprised.

PJ Media – I think you probably won’t really, but I don’t want to tell you what it is because it’s a VERY SHORT, pretty interesting little article.

New Bill Calls for DHS Accountability to Protect Families and Uphold Due Process

OK House Media – New Rep. Gabe Woollley has “introduced House Bill 1100, a legislative measure aimed at ensuring accountability within the Oklahoma Department of Human Services (DHS). The bill would require clear and convincing evidence to keep a child away from their parent or guardian. HB1100 would also impose felony kidnapping charges on the DHS employee who is responsible for approving the continued holding or release of a child for noncompliance.”

Peter Murphy of CFACT; Green Energy is “pure crony capitalism”

As our Governor continues down his “more of everything” energy plan road, Oklahomans continue to shine the stoplight against the ‘greening’ of their state.

Nowhere can you find a better example of that push back than the No Wind Turbines rally at the Capitol on Tuesday, from which we broadcast live. If you missed it, you can find the videos of the event on our YouTube channel. There were several hundred people there, though the temps started in the teens and barely got into the 20’s all day!

The Friday after the rally, we interviewed Peter Murphy on the podcast. Peter is with an organization called, CFACT – the Committee For A Constructive Tomorrow – which was formed to create truthful content and publish accurate research which would directly counter the deceptive global climate change narrative. They have an extensive advisory board which includes the Lord Monckton, a climate change realist who can be found all over the internet gleefully righting global warming myths around the world.

Michael and I had an extensive conversation with Peter, but two things really need to be brought to the forefront from that interview.

First, after having a conversation via Facebook with several legislators following the rally, it’s readily apparent that there are elected officials who see green technology companies as part of the Free Market Economy. This could be further from the truth, yet people still seem to insist there’s truth to this fairy tail. Below, Michael, Peter and I talk about how very UN-FREE MARKET the green scam is, but you can find the full, live video on our YouTube and Rumble channels.

We also talked about the IRA (Inflation Reduction Act) and how its passage was really just an homage to Biden’s cronies, giving them their own little climate gravy trains. But beyond that, as Peter says, it’s just massive group think paid for with tax dollars stolen from citizens and handed out to a list of donor-base desirables.

President Trump has – so far – seemed unfriendly toward the green energy scam. This bodes well for our ability to pull back on green initiatives nationally once he is president, but there will have to be no further federal funds thrown at this nonsense if we are going to attempt to re-align post-Biden energy policy again toward fossil fuels.

Nevertheless, we will continue to have to fight right here in our own backyard. The deceptive practices of the green energy companies and the willingness of some Oklahoma elected officials to look past those, make it hard to know when or where a green energy scam project will pop up. Like Whack-a-Mole, they seem to appear, but then disappear when too many citizens get wind of the projects, only to reappear again later in a different county. Meanwhile, agendas aren’t being properly posted to warn residents of the impending doom to their land ownership and enjoyment and some county commissioners appear to worry more about the business of climate contractors than the liberty of their own citizens. To top it all off, with an “all-of-the above” energy pusher for a Governor, citizens may be out of luck asking their elected officials to protect their land, livlihoods and legacies and have to once again take matters into their own hands and stand up for themselves.

Continue to follow us and we’ll update as we’re able.

What’s In A Name? Reclaim Oklahoma Parent Empowerment Becomes The ROPE Report

Back in 2008, as President Obama took his seat in history, several of us realized that something was not right with the world. We created an organization called, the OKC912Project and were deep into learning the way the legislation and elections worked, when we also realized that there was something rotten in Oklahoma’s public education system.

I had four of my five kids in Quail Creek Elementary – in fact, we’d sold our modest home in The Village (an older neighborhood in Oklahoma City) to move to Quail Creek just so my kids could go to the WONDERFUL school where I’d learned as a child.

Unfortunately, things didn’t go as I’d planned. There, my kids were taught Global Warming as fact, they weren’t actually educated much, and one was mercilessly bullied by his teacher and fellow students.

By the time 2nd grade ended for my oldest child, he was moved to homeschool. The rest were moved home the next year and, as parents, we never looked back.

In 2010, a friend from OKC912Project and I started a group called Restore Oklahoma Public Education (ROPE). We naively believed that if we shone light on the antics of public school, we could ‘restore’ it to the way it was before political correctness (DEI/SEL) and propagandist teaching standards.

One of our first jobs was removing Common Core State Standards from law. It took four years of lobbying a Republican legislature to scrap just one of Obama’s federal education initiatives (Governor Mary Fallin and State Superintendent Janet Barresi brought in every single one of them). Though it was successfully repealed from Oklahoma law, we learned the hard way that the repeal was meaningless in practice and schools carried on as they had been before.

Frustrated and realizing we were going to have to go at public school reform in a different way, we renamed ourselves Reclaim Oklahoma Parent Empowerment in 2015, making use of our previous initials and agreeing to focus more on educating parents about Oklahoma’s public education system and how to make changes at the local level.

Sadly, we were never able to gain a lot of traction with parents. No matter how many places we spoke, no matter how many times we explained the importance of the local school board, there seemed to be little effect.

In April of 2023, new Board Member Michael Grande, Board Member Julia Seay and I, started what Julia dubbed, “The ROPE Report” – a podcast. Something we’d never tried before, but seemed to be something God was calling us to do, when I got the impression several times over the week of Christmas in 2022, “my people perish for lack of knowledge”.

I had always been the primary writer and researcher, but that was our focus – the written word. With the world turning to the point that few people even read for longer than five minutes at a time, but would watch endless hours of TikTok videos, it seemed the next logical step. We kept the name Reclaim Oklahoma Parent Empowerment, but moved to a two-day-a-week podcast on Wednesdays and Fridays – The ROPE Report.

This change ushered in a different way of doing things altogether. Instead of really focusing on researching and writing, we were bringing in people who had important information about important topics affecting our state. We’d interview them for as little as an hour or as much as two. It was – and still is – very organic, not driven by time, but by what’s being said – how we can help viewers gain knowledge to make changes to increase our individual liberty here in the state.

After nearly two years now, the focus of ROPE is no longer parents, or education, but ALL things Oklahoma, from climate change to legislation, we try to find interviews with interesting people to educate viewers. Consequently, it just made sense to change our name to the ROPE Report.

Today, you’ll see our new logo on our social media pages and website, but we’ll still be the same group we’ve strived to be from the beginning – a source of news and information you can turn to that will report the truth the best we can about the things that affect you in your own back yard, right here in Oklahoma.

We’re glad you’ve been with us for the ride, but STAY TUNED, there’s lots more to come.

Weekly News Headlines and Commentary – Week of 1.6.25

Speaker-Elect Hilbert’s Legislative Priority Personifies Everything Wrong With Oklahom Government

ROPE2.org – After reading about our Speaker-Elect’s legislative priorities for the upcoming session, I thought it important – not only to write about it – but to talk about it in a live video (1.3.25). According to the Speaker-Elect, if he passes a cell phone bill and a budget, the House will have been more productive than in previous years.

So what’s wrong with a cell-phone bill? Watch the video, or read the article, either way, I’ve outlined it in bullet points, so it’s easy to follow and understand. Please, explain to those you know who will listen, exactly why this is bad. Oklahomans truly need to understand why we send legislators to the state Capitol, and it’s not to usurp local control and individual liberty.

Oklahoma Government Is Turnign Our Kids Into Commodities – The Women of Broken Trust Speak Out

ROPE2.org – In case it’s hard to share videos, I’ve put together an outline of our interview with Sherrie Conley, Roberta Lewis and Dayna Mooney of Broken Trust. It has three clips embedded and links to the live podcast and might be easier to share with others…

Social Media Post Calling Out Gubernatorial Politics Gets Tons Of Pushback – Makes Point Of Post

ROPE2.org – Though I’ve been at this investigation/writing gig for nearly 20 years, I have been known to publish some stinkers, but this wasn’t about what readers thought it was about…

Here’s the Real Hockey Stick

Robert Bryce Substack – One of the members of one of my ‘climate change is a hoax’ groups turned me on to Robert Bryce. Wow. This guy makes debunking climate change look like a child’s game. He is so easy to read and makes so much sense that I almost order you to read this article and then surf some others.

In this piece he shows that the amount of money going into climate change today is 21 times more than it was 10 years ago. Guess where all that money is coming from? YOUR POCKETS! Again, you’ll want to be with us live to talk to CFACT’s Peter Murphy on Friday (1.10) to hear more and why we’ve got to make this STOP.

Wyngard Files Bill To Eliminate Wind Energy Tax Credit, Save Taxpayers Money

Oklahoma Senate Media – File under “Really Great News”. Although Governor Mary Fallin in one of her few acts of conservative sanity, stopped wind turbine tax credits in 2017 a whole lot of wind energy companies were grandfathered in.

“Senate Bill 239 would eliminate the zero-emission subsidy for wind production after tax year 2025. Eliminating this tax credit will save taxpayers up to $16 million annually.”

It may not be on my timeline – of course I want them all gone next week – but this is a great start and this bill deserves the support of ALL Oklahomans!

Oklahoma Judge Issues Split Decision In Student Pronoun Case

The Oklahoman – So, on one hand, the Board created a rule that was, as the judge said, “valid and enforceable”, but then found that the Bord violated the student’s right to due process by not providing the student an opportunity for a hearing before the Board denied the student’s request to change their pronouns in their school records.

Gosh, is it just me, or does it seem like so much to do with education is simply off course?

Oklahoma To Obtain Drone Monitoring System After Mysterious Sightings In Other States

The Oklahoman – Without any kind of public discussion, Governor Stitt instructed public safety commissioner and homeland security adviser, Tim Tipton, “to procure the systems to support state and local law enforcement in responding to recent unmanned drone activity.”

“Drones and unmanned aerial systems are an exciting new industry here in Oklahoma,” Stitt said. “We want to make sure that industry has room to thrive.”

Awesome. They also collect TONS of information about American citizens as well thanks to all kinds of run-amok federal laws that allow the government to spy on its citizens.

Then, you have renown psychologist Peter Breggin warning that the drones people have reported seeing are “part of a psychological operation to justify a huge power grab by the federal government” likely as a way to control Americans.

Only a select few – and certainly not us plebes – really know what’s going on, but I can say this; as so many other comments our Governor has made in the press, his justification for spending tax dollars on equipment that would help the police ‘respond’ to drones is nothing less than concerning. What does this mean? How would they be used?

Again, our Governor justifies something that could affect all Oklahomans via the idea that ‘it’s good business’. At some point, I sure wish he’d see our liberty as ‘good business’.

Nailing Normal and New Narratives

David Arnett Substack – Really a great article about how Oklahoma ‘news’ tilts left though people like the Editor at the Tulsa World will kick and scream and say it doesn’t. What’s that old saying about, ‘you can’t fix a problem you won’t admit to having’ or some such thing?

This is why ROPE Report will constantly call attention to local substacks/blogs/reporting. The only really great reporting is the reporting done by locals who have skin in the game. Make sure you’re following these people – like David, and our friend V1SUT, Restore Liberty (Wendi Montgomery Dial), Oklahoma State Capitol (former Rep Jason Murphy) and the Sooner Sentinel (former Logan County Commissioner, Marven Goodman) –

Investigative Report: A Bold Bid to Reshape Oklahoma’s House of Representatives

Sooner Sentinel – Here, Goodman dissects and discusses Tom Gann’s filed legislation to change the way business is done in the Oklahoma House. Please read and then let’s support Gann’s effort. It’s the only way to put the power back in the laps of ‘the people’ where it belongs.

Government Strangles The Economy; Each Fed Regulator Kills 100+ Jobs

PJ Media – This has to be put into your internet savings bank and used over and over and over again anytime government wants to see themselves as ‘helping’ us.

Here’s an excerpt from the article: from a 2017 Auburn University study – Each $1 million change in the regulatory budget is associated with a change of about four regulator jobs. With our new update, we now find that a 10% cut in the regulatory budget results in a loss of 21,756 regulatory jobs. Given the average jobs impact of 3 million jobs over the five-year horizon, our updated analysis finds that one regulator costs the U.S. economy the equivalent of 138 private sector jobs per year. Each regulator costs the U.S. economy $11 million annually.

Social Media Post Calling Out Gubernatorial Politics Gets Tons Of Pushback – Makes Point Of Post

Recently, Governor Stitt made this ‘bobcat’ post on his socials.

It totally irritated me, so I made the following response and then posted it to ROPE’s Facebook page:

We have a small farm and have had to give countless predators a ‘dirt nap’ because they were killing our livestock. When we do it, we don’t post about it on social media – partly because people are insane and I don’t want to get reported by the PETA peeps – but also because I DON’T LIKE KILLING THINGS. I mean, we raise sheep – for meat and sale – and I hate it when we have to take them to the butcher. It usually makes me feel gross all day. I just don’t like killing things as a rule – even if I’m going to eat them afterward, or if I’m saving my livestock.

I actually like this about me – after nearly a decade of processing chickens and turkeys and taking sheep to the butcher – I still believe every life is important. I’ve not gotten ‘numb’ to death. It still stings. I still remember that even the racoon that ate the heads off 3 of my chickens was made by God just like me.

So there’s that, although that wasn’t the actual reason behind the post.

Immediately, the post blew up with comments about how I was a Karen, or a crybaby, or about how it was well within the Governor’s right to shoot a bobcat on his property whether it was eating his animals or not.

Here are a few selected responses so you can fully digest their flavor.

Look, I’m big girl. I’ve been in this game a long time. I believe in free speech. Everyone who wanted to comment about what an idiot I am got to say their piece without me censoring them in any way. And maybe I did get a bit strident in my response – I certainly don’t think everything I say, or post, or write is the best thing ever all the time. After a 20 year writing career, I’ve CERTAINLY had my duds.

It’s no secret that I’m no fan of Governor Stitt, but trust me when I say I don’t relish this position.

I would LOVE to be able to back the REPUBLICANS I VOTE FOR, but with the glaring exception of former Labor Commissioner Mark Costello whom I 100% respected and thought the world of, I’ve NEVER voted for a Republican who didn’t let me down in some huge way. In fact, that’s why I started ROPE in 2008 in the first place – to try and keep our elected officials on course by pointing out their departures from Republican ideals. I’m used to getting the cold shoulder from legislators and Party officials, or reamed a new one by all measure of commenters on social media – I’m neither a Karen nor a snowflake or I would have quit for good LONG AGO.

My choice to call out the Governor in this post wasn’t about the bobcat – it was about the DISTRACTION the post was meant to be.

After a few hours of watching the commenters pile on, I added the following update to the post:

– Thank you so much for all your comments on the post. For those asking what this has to do with Parental Empowerment – we’ve been posting ALL kinds of information here and on our podcast for nearly two years. Maybe a follow would bring some clarity on that issue.

Disagreement can be instructive and we’re all about free speech here – but our Governor’s post is a distraction from all the problems we have in this state that aren’t being dealt with by his office – and that’s the point of the post. There are plenty of us who have disposed of LIVESTOCK-EATING predators without posting them on social media. Our Governor’s media people know that posts about hunting or sports are nearly universally loved – and defended – by Oklahomans and, hence, a great distraction. It’s important to point out these distractions and attempt to put the focus back on the issues at stake. And that’s what we’ll do here every single time we can. So, agree or disagree, that’s the bottom line.

Our governor has absolutely sat out the fight to have DHS investigated, though he could have called for an investigation himself. Same with the Turnpike Authority which is costing Oklahomans millions and millions of dollars while they continue to ratchet up their tolls.

I could go on with examples of how obvious government malfeasance is simply overlooked by our Governor and his office, but I’ll stop there and end on this; we have the right and the responsibility as ‘the people’ of this state – not to mention taxpayers – to expect our elected officials to do the right thing and to call them out publicly when they don’t. You may not like the way someone does it (ie me), but if we’re going to allow ourselves to be easily distracted by public statements from our officials about hunting, or sports teams, or attracting business and increasing our workforce, that we don’t see how we’re being manipulated to look the other way, our government will NEVER work for us.

And that was the whole point of the post in the first place.

Oklahoma Government Is Turning Our Kids Into Commodities – The Women Of Broken Trust Speak Out

For our return to LIVE podcasting after Christmas and New Year’s break, we invited three board members from the new nonprofit, Broken Trust – former state Representative Sherrie Conley, and two Moms For Liberty chapter leaders, Dayna Mooney and Roberta Lewis – to speak with us about the work they are focusing on for the upcoming year.

The conversation didn’t disappoint. As usual, I’ll suggest you watch the entire LIVE video on either our YouTube or Rumble channels, so you can get the full picture of the conversation, which was wide-ranging, but solidly focused on how absolutely horribly our state is caring for our kids and families.

In the clip below, Sherrie started off by telling us that she believes that Oklahoma is now to the point where Oklahoma government is just turning our kids into commodities rather than educating or protecting them. The state keeps throwing money at education, but it seems to go everywhere but the classroom and here we are at the bottom of the heap on the national educational scale with maybe 20% of kids proficient in reading and math.

Just in case we didn’t believe Sherrie’s assertions, Roberta told us the story of how no less than 4 Oklahoma government branches essentially ‘kidnapped’ her son into a mental health facility. It harkens back to the story TS Smith shared with us on the podcast.

Seriously, if you can watch this video and not be scared of what could happen to your child, please watch it again and re-think your position.

In closing, we reiterate the notion that kids in Oklahoma have been reduced to little more than dollar signs for vendors. If the state continues to throw tax dollars at education while getting as little bang for their buck as they’re getting, it makes you wonder if the majority of the body is essentially either corrupt, or stupid. Whatever the cause, it has to be stopped. We’re literally helping NO ONE at this point but the people who make money off the endless ‘educational’ crap that’s being shoveled into classrooms as fast as they can buy it.

This year, please pay attention to what’s going on at the capitol and get involved. It’s the only way to save our state and its kids.

Speaker-Elect Hilbert’s Legislative Priority Personifies Everything Wrong With Oklahoma Government

According to the Oklahoma Voice this morning, our new House Speaker-Elect, Kyle Hilbert has declared;

“In this upcoming session, if we pass two bills, a state budget and a bill reducing the usage of cellphones in public schools, it will be one of the most substantial legislative sessions that I’ve experienced.”

Full stop.

During the fight to repeal Common Core from state law and remove it from Oklahoma classrooms, the talking points invariably used by legislators to stiff-arm our pleas included “we don’t like education mandates” and “we’re a local control state”. No joke. But then, during those years, one history teacher-turned legislator told me that Oklahomans send legislators to the capitol to “write bills”.

What The Bill Says

Here is the cell phone bill, created by Senate Education Committee Vice-Chair, Ally Seifried; SB139.

According to the press release sent out by Senate Media, the bill, “empower[s] schools to adopt ‘bell to bell’ cell phone policies”, yet the bill summary says, “An Act relating to schools; requiring school district boards of education to adopt a policy prohibiting use of cell phones while on campus during certain time period”. Requiring and ’empowering’ do not have the same meaning – the first includes force.

In fact, the bill goes on to say that it will require schools to set discipline policies for students who break the school’s required policy on cell phone use (the force part). It also allots up to 2 million taxpayer dollars (“if available”, whatever that means) to be granted to middle and high schools so they can buy something to STORE cell phones during the day.

Problems With The Bill

  1. What is the point of a school board? According to state law, individual local school boards have the right and ability to set policy – including policy over cell phones. This bill actively usurps local school board authority. On one hand, we expect parents to execute control over their minor children, yet so much of what the state does actually removes parental executive control in favor of a government policy, rule or law. How can a parent execute parental control if we keep removing their executive function?
  2. This is NEW LAW. How many laws do Oklahomans need to restrain them – or, in this case, their children? What about schools? Could an argument be made that part of the reason public schools in Oklahoma are failing is that they are constrained by state laws that may not have been needed at the local level?
  3. This law forces schools to create disciplinary actions to be meted out when students break cell phone policy. What happens if a school DOESN’T create a cell phone policy? What happens if they don’t create a discipline policy? How many times has state law required schools to create a policy, but then never forced the school to write the policy when they don’t? Tulsa attorney Maria Seidler has told us numerous times, for example, that public schools don’t adhere to all of Oklahoma’s Parental Rights law, but there isn’t an enforcement mechanism in the law to make them, forcing parents to use their own money to sue schools while schools use taxpayer dollars to fight them. How many times has the state forced schools to follow the policies they DO create – about bathrooms, free speech, bullying, or student safety, for example? This law, then, would be meaningless, just like so many others our legislature creates, because there isn’t a mechanism of enforcement.
  4. Schools can apply for a grant to create a place/places for student cell phones to be kept. Two million dollars will be pulled from taxpayer pockets to supply grant ‘winners’. Is there a reason cell phones can’t be turned off as students come into class, dropped into a basket on the teacher’s desk and collected before they leave the classroom? Two million dollars is needed for that?

What Our Constitution Guarantees

The Oklahoma Constitution says the following in Section 2-1: Political power – Purpose of government – Alteration or reformation:

All political power is inherent in the people; and government is instituted for their protection, security, and benefit, and to promote their general welfare; and they have the right to alter or reform the same whenever the public good may require it: Provided, such change be not repugnant to the Constitution of the United States.

How does any of the nonsense written in our Speaker-Elect’s priority bill match with the wording of our state Constitution?

In fact,

  1. It usurps local control of government – which removes the security citizens should have in control of their government and removes any benefit to them by taking the issue out of their hands.
  2. It creates a NEW law, removing power from the people and giving it to government. The more laws government creates, the more individual liberty is constrained and the less benefit or security ‘the people’ receive.
  3. This law is meaningless because it accomplishes nothing. Meaningless laws cause ‘the people’ to suffer. Even if prohibitions were added to the bill that FORCED schools to create policy on this issue, it would do little more than once again remove the power from “the people”/parents to deal with the issue and give it to government.
  4. Taking MORE dollars from taxpayers to buy unnecessary items is burdensome to the liberty of ‘the people’. The economy is hard. Parents need to KEEP THEIR OWN MONEY and decide how to spend it. Interestingly, if parents choose not to pay their taxes so they won’t be used for government frivolity, government will fine them or send them to prison. THAT is how out-of-whack our government is compared to what our Constitution says our government must do or be.

What The Legislature MUST Prioritize Instead

The legislature MUST:

  1. Prohibit PRIVATE BUSINESSES from receiving public funds to do business in the state; ie – remove ALL tax credits and incentives for private business. This would restore free enterprise and a fair economy, creating a benefit for all citizens and security of an even playing field for those who own their own businesses. As example; we spent at least one million taxpayer dollars on a fledgling electric car maker that has never lived up to its promises.
  2. Prohibit taxation of property and income (which is also property). Our state constitution says in Section 2-2 on Inherent Rights; “All persons have the inherent right to life, liberty, the pursuit of happiness, and the enjoyment of the gains of their own industry“. The bolded terminology refers to property and income. The taxation of such flies in the face of our Constitution’s requirement for the government to provide us protection, security and benefit. The legislature should write a state question to enable the people to change the Constitution to prevent the use of property taxation and start to phase out income tax ASAP (see Rep. Jay Steagall).
  3. Prohibit eminent domain for turnpikes, solar installations, wind turbines or any desire of PRIVATE INDUSTRY to conduct business in our state. Taking the property of ‘the people’ should only be done in VERY DIRE need that would benefit ‘the people’. A private wind turbine company – Invenergy – shouldn’t be able to take property from Oklahoma citizens to create an electric transmission corridor that would allow them to ship Oklahoma wind energy to out of state customers.
  4. Stop giving money to public schools that do not educate children. We are 49th in education and most children in the state aren’t proficient in either reading or math. Uneducated students remove our security and provide little benefit to the state or it’s citizens and taking tax dollars from citizens to support failure removes their security. Public schools often have multi-million dollar sports stadiums full of high school kids who can’t count back change. Stop allowing taxpayers to be robbed for failure.

What “The People” Must Do

  1. Contact your legislator. Remind them of the guarantees our State Constitution provides Oklahoma citizens. When legislation is promoted that does NOT agree with these guarantees, immediately call and/or email and explain why the bill must be voted down.
  2. Until we Oklahomans understand the function of our state government, we can’t educate our elected officials. At least read the Bill of Rights of our Constitution. Then, educate those around you including your legislators. It’s the only way to put government back in the hands of ‘the people’ and out of those who think only of lobbyists, public school bullies and elevating their power quotient for another job in government when they’re through at the legislature.
  3. Track legislation through the legislative website and/or Legiscan and/or follow OKHPR, OK2A, Save Oklahoma Farms And Ranches and ROPE, in order to know what laws are being introduced during the session and how they affect you.
